First towing trip W/ new motor

I know the conversation we had with Chris (SCtrail...) at our GTG a couple of months ago in N. Illinois during the new engine maiden voyage left me with the impression that he's one who has found the 'KEY' to making the 6.5 get up to it's full potential.

I'm sure the coatings help but many engines run great w/o all of that. Iirc he has a stock cam so it has to do with ip, precup, and injectors all with a good turbo.

Maybe the coatings make more difference than I think but I saw them more as a longevity mod.

I'm certain the coatings don't hurt. They've been an advantage in very high performance (racing) engines for quite some time. The 6.5 though, is certainly not zinging up to anything resembling that kind of RPM,

I am confused as well as to the extreme setup he has for the engine.

Extreme setup??? Now I am confused, I guess if a few coatings are considered extreme then OK.... I don't consider anything I did to the motor extreme, just not known much in the 6.5 world me thinks.

I stated when I started the motor that I was building for max torx below 2500rpm's, not big HP.... most of my coatings are to "slick up" the moving parts, others were to control heat, either in the chamber, heads, elsewhere, for water temp control. As for the blower I use, well some think it has the wrong parts based on what others are selling or using, I need all I can get between 1000 - 2500 rpm's, I never twist the motor up past 3000 so I don't need top end... If I can move the power band down to where it best suits my needs that is what I am working towards.

And for the coatings--
Again, just because no one has done much coatings in the past in these motors, maybe there is something to be found using them, no one would know if it were never tried would they... I wonder if a big name shop/seller started recommending the coatings how many would jump in just because the big name said it worked?? After all, we all know or accept that coating the top of the piston helps keep heat out of the piston and will help save it from high heat, then why is there doubt about other coatings and the added benefits they offer????

Sounds like you have a nice engine, I think the coatings would save some HP. Saving is better than adding more fuel in my mind.

I don't doubt your coatings and I don't follow the big name vendor, accept maybe for turbos but I have a few combos of my own I want to try also.

Coatings are just something I'd have to send my parts out for and anything more than pistons gets expensive. I have an old oven but no clue how to set it up and still be safe.
