Is it just me, or does Firefox bog down on the forums (other forums too)? Would there be some settings to improve performance?

EDIT: See post below...I may have found some help.

I find that 3.0 and later versions bog down more. It seems to get better then they update it and the problems start over. This site is the worst for me.

The way it caches the pages is killing me, it doesn't remember and feels like it loads everything each time...I'm thinking of trying another browser.

I may have found something...trying it right now and it feels way better on first blush...

I changed my shortcut target to

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1

Your location may not be exactly the same so right click the shortcut and add /prefetch:1 to the end.

Then drag it to your quicklinks and you're set.

So far it's been lightening fast for me. It only takes a minute and is way better.
It may just be the fix we've been looking for.

Something else I've been trying is a fresh install of Chrome...it is much fast than FF is right now. Maybe FF is starting to get bloated..one look at the update page is telling me there's too much going on. It all has a cost, eh?

I'm using Chrome and it isn't much better than Firefox. Both display "waiting for the truckstop" at the bottom:mad2:

Thanks Bill...

I'm always up for something that'll help. Just did them so we'll see how it does. I still prefer FF over anything else....just have to watch all the add ons that bloat it out.

Ozzie, do we need all those add ons? I've disabled any that are known to cause instability in the OS.

Many of those are just goodies you don't really need and they do slow things down. You can always put them back, so have at it.
I do like the weather add on though as I work outside and need to keep an eye on things.

I've gone through those adjustments Bill posted with no ill effects so far.
I haven't really used it long enough yet to see how much they help.

You know how it goes...one day everything flies right along and then later that same day it feels like it's stuck in molasses.

Fire Fox is starting to be resource hog, there are some articles on CNET about it, I went back to IE for awhile as I was getting tired of messing with it.

When I added.... /prefetch:1 ..... into my shortcut target, I had a warning come up that it was not valid. Any info??

Otis make sure you have a space between the " and the /. With no space I received the same error as you did.

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1

The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is to make sure there is a space before the / and none after?

As long as the shortcut is valid it should work just fine. I've done it on all my puters and it works better than before.
