Fan clutch part number help

I am trying to help a friend that has the 6 bolt fan on his hummer. His fan clutch is shot and we cant find the part number for the clutch. Anyone know it for the 6 bolt- it uses same 4 bolts
To water pump.
He is trying to not spend 175-200 they charge through authorized AM General because the spin on waterpump upgrade is on the list for next year.
If i new a part number for hayden, we can check it against measurement chart. Not sure if pickup one is the same, but have to start chasing something.

Yeah, if he has to he could use the one that came out of mine, but he has around 10 blades on there now. Mine is only a 7 blade p.o.s. With his fan he kept cool under most circumstances.

I remember reading years ago about driving a self tapping screw into fanclutch to force it to stay locked up. Never tried it, anyone here ever do that? Not that it will get done on his, just wondering.
 
No time like now to do it right and upgrade the thing. Why do it over later? The whole risk the engine to put 90% of the water pump job off excuse is lost on me.
 
That is exactly it. Time and money. He has another car normally but it is down for other issues. He has to drive his 80 something dad in for dialysis 2 times a week besides work. He is not yet capable at a mechanic level- He is learning as I help him on tasks. Last one was how to change brake pads. I showed him what wrench set to buy then also...

Hummers almost never overheat at low speeds. He already upgraded to larger exhaust to help dump egt, radiator upgrade, added innercooler, h.o. Water pump and biggest hummer fan that was known at the time.
So his can do good most of the time, until now. of course that is when the regular car goes down.

Theory is to do same thing I am- timing, waterpump, at same time. Maybe balancer at same time. Only 40,000 miles on rig so far. His dad bought it but didn't drive it much. Almost only place I ever saw it was in 4th july parade head of the P.O.W. group. So until he has the cash for parts, and I have the time to help- just a fanclutch will make it more safely mobile instead of pull of to side of road to allow it to cool.

One thing nice about the big radiator layed down more horizontal than vertical- just idling the heat sheds upward quite well without a fan.
 
In that case get the best fan clutch (and fan if needed) that will fit the current 4 bolt WP and forget about doing "everything". It's nice to plan for next year, but, that becomes 2 years before you know it. The HO 4 bolt pumps, although not perfect, haven't let me down.

I would be curious as to the HUMMER 6 bolt clutch because the 6 bolt pickup fan clutch is known to overheat and quit when you need it most. Hopefully this isn't the weak assed clutch he has in there now. The 6 bolt clutch and 6 blade fan cost me an engine.
 
I dont know if it is the same on hummer as pickup was. His current one has been on there a lot of years. Some people learn the 5 year rule the hard way. Lucky for him he is a detail oriented person with a thing for numbers. It has kept him at 200* until now, so making the complete upgrade isn't panic mode.

Putting a fan clutch eliminator makes more sense than trying to source a fan clutch and fan at this point. If he has to he can order the AM General one for 160ish best price he found- but AM General number dont crossover to anything. I'm sure its a haydn, Wilk, or beru.
 
I popped the spring out of its recess and rotated the valve. It ran fully locked for 3 months until I had time to do a pump and clutch upgrade. A little loud but cooled just fine. It took a smallish forearm, tiny flat bladed screwdriver and 4 min. No diassembly needed if you have the small arm available.
 
I sprung it loose and moved it about 90deg in the closed direction. It jumped the valve inside somehow.(a oneway trip but it was dead anyway) I just left it there outside the indent that it should have been in. It stayed and remained locked....
 
Or run a strap around it. 7 or 8 cable ties will drag it around at engine speed and move a whack of air. Probably 40hp down at all times but with 400 ftlbs of torque and a beast like that i never really noticed....
