For your consideration:

- Body and electrical: sheet metal, batteries, alternators, starters, guages, accessories, wipers, lighting, etc

- Engine: '92-'93 DB2; '94-'95 DS4 OBD1; '96^ DS4 OBD2

- Transmission and drivetrain: 4L80E, NV4500, transfer case, diffs, suspension, brakes, clutches\hydraulics, power steering, etc

- Hi performance: chips, reflash, exhaust, turbos, charge-air coolers, fuel system upgrades, posted dyno sheets, etc

- Fluids, fuel: oil, trans\txfer case fluids, antifreeze, requirement for fuel additives and lubricant mixes and ratios, alternate fuels, etc

- ??

Cross-posts could then be categorized and moved to the correct subfolder(s) - tech and specific how-to's could develop within each subfolder - all specific to the 6.5 systems in the various platforms - no mixing with the DMax or the 5.7l\7.4l\8.2l gassers (patooie!)

Also don't forget about cold air intakes, fluids, and filters

In some ways I agree with Slim, if you want to catch it all, easier all lumped together. IE for the regular visitor that keeps up with everything.

If you want to only search specific things, easier if broken up in sections.

Added, work in progress - see #21 above, again ^^^^

Thanks

I like it. I like being alot more specific. You guys are used to 1 section and no where else to go. I'd really like to add those that you listed.

Could also be correlated to:

Engine and drivetrain tech - combined, as above ^, no hi perf

Non-drivetrain tech - body\electrical\fluids as above ^, no engine\drivetrain entries

Hi performance tech - any\all upgrades as above ^, incl tires\wheels, bumpers, etc

Newbies can find their interests quicker with responses directed to particular areas, oldbies will get quicker feedback and direct response without distraction from someone needing to know how many wheels his recent acquisition should have, or hi-guys-where-is-my-turbo type questions - searches within folders will collate tech specific to that folder

Many times on forums you see people post to the main section with the addition of Mods please don't move because they were not getting answered when they had previously tried posting in the correct subsection.
I like it like it like this seems to me when you divide it up you naturally get a reduced traffic on the subsections and people have a harder time getting answered.
How about this if we divide it up can we create a rule that should a poster attempt to use a subsection to no avail (for a certain time period) they are allowed to post in the main without getting moved.

cheers
Nobby

Its your sections guys. You can do whatever you want. If the majority votes to expand, I'll expand with gmctd's ideas. If not, it'll stay the way it is. If I do expand, I'm gonna have to ask for help though sifting through moving stuff around to their respective sections. Thats very time consuming but I have no problem doing it.

What option should I vote for to vote for gmctd's suggestion? Either of the first two expansion ones?

I know it sounds good to split it up and it makes sense, BUUUUUTTTTTT, sometimes you can make a site to specific and someone that has information on the topic may not even be in that section to answer the question posed. This is because they have no reason to be in that section if they don't have a problem or peruse the section.

Then you get a limited few answering the questions (sound familiar, other sites) and they tend to dictate the responses ultimately stifling the section. Then you get a site that goes down hill like the (page) who had very specific "experts" that kind of ran everyone out of town. That stops the new guys from putting in their two cents and new ideas.

This is just my opinion and observations, this is not intended to be accepted as honest to god realism.

I only say this because I find this site VERY VERY refreshing and everyone is treated with respect. I have noticed we have a better response base than the other sites and we have more new members not afraid to chime in. This is what is making this site so popular. Just like wrenching, if it ain't broke don't fix it..................

Slim....i think yve hit the Nail right on the Head here, but there again i`m just the foreigner :D

I know that im not going to read 6 or 7 or 10 sections. I have time to read one section as far as 6.5 engine and its accessories goes.

I'd like to at least see our general truck stuff seperated from the Duramax truck stuff like the Electrical, Exterior, Interior... If we vote to keep one section with classifieds, then maybe have this be more of a 6.5 and vehicle forum than just 6.5?

Thats what I'm trying to get at but the majority dont seem to want it.

You do not really have the option that RC suggested in your poll. I think what he wants is what is needed. I often see guys asking questions specific to our trucks, but not our engines sit with no answers in the Dmax centered forums. When they do post here about items other than our engines the thread gets sent back to never never land. A single area that will cover everything else about our generation of trucks, but still separate from our 6.5 engine area would be all that we need.

Other than the 6.5 classified area, that is a great addition. Thanks.

If a lot of 6.5ers dont check the other sections now, why would they check these new sections?

FYI, I dont move any threads out of this section. Even on the old site, we never moved anything out of the 6.5 land. Whatever was posted in there we let fly. Here, its no different. In fact, I just moved a thread in here that TD (Tim) was the first to respond to for better replies. The thread was in intro's and had sat there for nearly a week with no replies. I moved it here and within 1 hour, people were all over it. I completely understand you guys wanting body type sections and thats fine.

I can add it to the poll if you guys like.

Or how about GM XX generation trucks/components? That should cover the entire truck, minus the engine, which can be discussed in the engine section. Just thinking out loud.
