I was wondering what would have to be done to take a 94 6.5 with ds 4 and put it in a 96 with a blown 6.5 engine. Is it a out of one into another with all the connections or is there going to be some moding that I am going to have to do. Any help would be apprieciated. Thanks in advance.

The basic engine will bolt right in, You may have to swap the oilcooler and lines from the 94 in as well,as the 96 has 5/8 lines versus 1/2" in the 94.(diff size block fittings).

The 94 needs same IP as the 96 (I think its the 5122) if it was not replaced previously to that model, for the 96 ECM.You cant use the 94 ECM.

You may want to keep the GM8 turbo from the 96,but its not a must.

Keep all belt driven accessories and brackets from the 96 as well

Oil cooler lines will be the same up to early 97(seen quite a few 97's with the smaller 1/2" lines on them). 94 may have the 5068 IP which will not work in your 96, but that is easy to check for. All in all a straight forward swap. The OPS will be in a different position from 94 to 96, but it should still reach.

The 94 had in many cases an odd duck injection pump (5068) unless retrofited.

Not an issue, use the 96 IP and just bolt the sucker in.

Now if the 94 has a 5521 or anything other than a 5068 IP just use the entire package and your set.

As was mentioned, the oil cooler lines can be a minor issue. The 94 will have smaller tapped holes in the block for the quick connectors to screw into

The cooler ends of these lines may also be different as they went to a larger cooler, lines and fittings on the later engines.

Its all very easily doable.

Mix and match what you need to get the thing in there.

The basic engine is identical with the exception of (AS MENTIONED) oil cooler ports and possibly the Oil pressure switch location. (94 had it back by the LH head and the later one may be in the valley, but the rear port is still there)

One other thing. The 94 will have 3/8-16 theaded bolts in the bellhousing, the 96 may have metric.

Standard bolts are easy to come by. Use grade 5 or 8 and if you can find them, use washer headed bolts (Has flange head)

Good luck

thanks for everything. it sounds like it can be done with ease. mainly i will have to swap the ip and do something with the oil cooler. The problem i see i am going to have is the oil cooler in the 94 messed up from the wreck.

thefermanator stated i can easily tell which ip i have. Anyone know how to tell the ip on the 94 has been replaced twice since it was new.

also one more thing, how hard is it to change an ip. do you have to remove any intake parts or does the pump bolt to the top of the engine. thanks again for the help.

Check the last 4 numbers on the metal tag attatched to the IP. You want to have a 5521 or a 5288, anything but the 5068. The 5068 is a 94 only pump.
