Just been reading Alldata on front mount replacement, they list removing the lower control arm at the pivot. Anyone done it without doing that which would be a PIA.

Cheers
Nobby

For the engine mount???? That doesn't make sense to me. I haven't don't it on a 6.5 but many smallblocks. Easiest to do with a cherry picker but can be done with a jack and block of wood between it and the pan. Just do one side at a time and it will line right back up. Sometimes pullin the tire on the side your on helps but may not be neccesary.

I would not recommend jacking on the pan. Remove the hood and lift the engine with the lift hooks (Motor mount cross bolts out)

The RH side is easy but the left side is a tad more tedious but doable.

Be careful and it will go well. A buddy would be a real plus to help hold wrenches up top.

Get the air cleaner box and such off the truck to gain access to the area.

Thanks Robyn, roger on the sump pan, learned that one a long time ago, probably will use my cherry picker.

Cheers

Yep the cherry picker and patience are 2 BIG requirements for this job, and a nimble set of fingers won't hurt. I also reccomend taking the upper fan shroud loose as you may hit it with the fan when you lift it up to get the mounts slid out.

IF you could take pix of this job for the stickies would be excellent. I'm sure mine could use a freshening up........ some day...........

Me too. 230k seems like they have done their part.

True that!

I thought of doing this when I dropped the oil pan to raise the engine instaed of dropping the front diff....

My Passengers side bolt is horribly rusty (looks like a manifold bolt thats seen 12 winters).... Not to mention a suck job to get at....

Would be nice to have a nice fresh mount and bolt in there.

i had a buddy that used to change mounts with the engine running. stick it in drive, apply a little throttle with the brakes on to do one side and put it in reverse to do the opposite side. kinda dangerous if you ask me, but it works. Ed

Good night! That sounds crazy-dangerous!

Sure would stink if one of them broke while you were powerbraking trying to do the other one!

I did mine in the truck, had to raise the engine and did both sides. It was tedious but doable. I wouldn't want to do it for a living:D.

I cheat. I do mine while the engine is out. Even then a couple of extra joints in the wrist would help. With the engine in,a second person is almost mandatory unless you have 3 arms.
I just put the energy suspension polyurethane mounts in my 93. I had a little bit of difficulity getting the cross bolts in for some reason. I used rubber ones in my 95 this summer and they lined up real easy. After seeing what can happen to the rubber mounts in the 93 ,I don't know that I would put rubber in again. They were twisted inside the clamshell. The rubber doesn't fill the clamshell like the poly does. I'll have to take some pics of the rubber ones that came out. I do have pics of the poly mounts.

Here is what had happened to the oem rubber mounts. The first pic is the driver's side. Pretty normal looking. Notice the gaps on both sides between the rubber and the clamshell. The 2nd pic is of the passenger side. Pretty tweaked inside the clamshell. With the poly mounts there is no room for it to twist like there is with the rubber mounts.A side note. The truck that the rubber mounts came out of has a 5th wheel hitch in it.I have no idea what the previous owners pulled with it.

Yeowch!

yeah that is exactly what mine looked like. spent last saturday replacing mine, first tried by myself didn't happen. let me tell you they are not much fun, well atleast on a four wheel drive.

Old thread but I need to bitch.

Part number 2637 from 'Anchor' is a piece of $#!*... The bolt holes are about a half hole off and the metal is that of a pop can. Won't bolt up. Another GOTCHA from china and Rock Auto. I guess I forgot Energy made a replacement bushing...

My mounts look like Barry's in post #17.

What is the part numbers for the Energy bushings? How do they handle the vibrations transmitted into the cab? They do look like a WAY better design.
