Engine Arrived

Take a close look at the valve covers that came on the block. They may not even have gaskets installed.

My motor came with either a tag on the valve covers or a sheet of paper in with the other stuff saying the valve covers currently installed were for transport only to replace before installing motor.

I double checked, they are RTV'd down. My note just mentioned flush the cooler lines, which doesn't apply, because I have new ones. The oil cooler got degreaser and 2 minutes of Hot soapy water from the car wash.

The rigth side. I don't expect it to have done anything to the valve train, but you never know until its checked.

OUCH! That's nasty. I'd be a bit concerned about what's inside there... Rockers, studs, pushrods, lifters, even the cam.

Odlaw and 625fireman It got a lot more than lifted  lol

I don't want to jack Johns thread so I'll just make a new thread once the ENTIRE thing is finished. Bracing, adjustments, leveled out, new tires and wheels and the final coat of paint on the frame/suspension.

Back to Johns thread, the engine looks great! Just a damn shame that it got damaged like that during shipping. I hate that. Accidents can happen but... damn! Hopefully it all works out for you and they fix the issue quickly and hassle free.

Well, it was just set into the frame.

I had a Duh moment when I realized that the 6.2 and 6.5 rear main is different. I was able to uncrush the dip stick tube on the 6.2 pan and re install it. Best I can tell, no cracks, I'll see if it starts to leak.

A bit of releif when I found no internal deformation of the valve cover, only the bump for the breather was crushed.

Not always. The early 6.2s had a 2 piece rear main seal thus a different oil pan. The later 6.2s used the same block as the 6.5 and have a 1 piece seal.

My block has the two piece main, evidently.

Two more bolts on th bell housing, (they really suck)
Torque converter bolts are tight and the cover is installed.

Have to work tomorrow, planning a break in drive this weekend.

cool Just put one in myself sure wish ida taken more pictures now! Diesel depot was great to work with. Good luck

Got it started and checked for initial leaks.

Cranked it twice without the glow plugs and number 1 injector lose, to prime the injectors. Put in the glow plugs and it fired right off, and ran smooth in short order.

Waiting to do the full warm up, I never got my ID number for the 'Car Code' scanner software to check timing and set TDCO. Another day isn't going to hurt to wait.

It sounded great!

Thanks to TTS. The insight and suggestions are appreciated.

I was at Diesel Depot this afternoon met Bennie and spent about 2 hours with Jaimie took a quick tour of their shop, also took him for a ride in the K1500 we had a good visit and I think before it is all over we'll have an ATT on one of their trucks. Packratt Jaimie says Hi.

Why do the majority of freight companies take such poor care of their freight?

I'm in the middle of a freight claim from shipping a used 6.5 and they broke the crate, messed up all the tin and want to only offer me .10 per lb because it's a used engine.

If you see a Road Runner truck sitting somewhere, do me a favor, seal some valve stem cores, or pour some coke in the tank.
