I have an edge juice w/ attitude programmer and i'm worried about my stock turbo. I haven't had any problems (knock on wood) but i've heard about having too much power and blowing the turbo. What also worries me is that I have 5" exhaust even though it has a 4" downpipe. Should I be worried?

Your Edge will not even come close to ruining the stock turbo.

Im on my stocker and run over 500hp through it often and EGTs exceeding 2000* and boost going over 35psi.

Now those numbers are not good at all, and should not be goal for anyone.

The turbo will be fine.

I would worry more about it loosing communication first.

The Downpipe is not 4" it is a crushed 3" or 3.5" cant remember.

The 5" exhaust wont hurt the turbo, it isnt necessary but its not going to hurt the turbo.

Turbos are incredibly strong for the abuse they go through.

Yea i've had ford guys, dodge guys, and chevy guys tell me this. The most recent was a couple of buddies of mine that work at a used car dealership with nothin but diesel trucks.

many underestimate how stout the Dmax is as they think that it something fails on the cummins then it has to fail on the Dmax sooner. But in reality there are many things that are much stronger on the DMax.

Rest assured your turbo is fine. And if you decide to compete in a work stock pulling class the Dmax has an advantage due to the turbo alaready being a 2.5" inducer.

Yea I plan on competing in a pulling over the course of the 2009 summer. Hoping to get a single cab 6 speed duramax before i get into pulling with with the truck i have. oh and thanks for the info. Very reassuring. Thanks

Which truck do you plan to pull your current one or the new one??

Which class are you gonna be in??

Let me know Ill talk you through getting it set up so that you all you need to do is learn how to drive it.

not sure which truck. i've heard that shorter trucks pull better. I guess i would get into the street stock or modified class to start off with? For the past couple of years i've been pullin my 84 gmc sierra classic lifted 4" with 35's and a 454 and have done pretty well. Diesels are 100 times different i'm sure but seems to be more fun.

Your 4 door will be best as it is longer. All of the trucks pull pretty good. Honestly its a toss up. The 6spd will pull great. And the current truck will be easy to pull but you will most likely need a tranny. However the 6spd truck will need a nice clutch and flywheel.

Street stock is a 2.6 class so you can run a decent turbo. But if you dont have the cash for that or a tranny stay in the work stock class.

You will need safety equipment which includes.

Kill switch(electric or air depends on rules)
Driveshaft loops/explosion sheilds
Turbo cross bolts
Stack or turn up tip
2lb fire extinguiser
maybe a helment and fire jacket.

Now for traction you may know what to do but.

Build some LONG traction bars out of Schedule 80 pipe and make nice brackets than spread the load out over the frame. I hope to make write up on my new ones sometime.

Suspension stops that lift the frame about an inch. So a 9 or 10" block will work if you truck has stock leafs. Make it adjustable too so you can have 1" of travel when required

30psi front 50 rear is what I usually follow.

If you can hang front weights do so.

Tie rod sleeves and if you plan to makje more than a couple hooks, a straight centerlink.

And of course lowering the Tbars.

Now for tires, if you can afford to, get a set of dedicated tires. If you are under 600hp run BFGs, something like 315s.

If you may be over 600 or close to it try STSs 33x12.5

You will also need a strong adjustable pulling hitch with an eye that measures 3x3.75" to incorporate the new hook.

Really need to know the budget though to tell you waht to do for power. The edge will have to go regardless.

I should be able to afford whatever I need to do. The only thing i'm really not sure about is this EFI live thing. I was sure i would need to ditch the edge programmer.

get EFI Live. Its a learning curve but for just getting going you can bite the bullet and have a tune made.

The GT4094R would be perfect for the 2.6 class, its a touch over but most places allow it. The GT4088R would gaaruntee that you would get in. Talk to joe at PPE about the garrets.

The HTT Promax is also a good kit.

Or if you do have some coin MPI twins are nice but you would have to run outlaw as they are 3.0 twins

more later Im going to bed..
