Hey troops

Merry Christmas

I am looking for a dual exhaust kit that has at least 2-1/2 Pipe that I can use on my K5 Project rig

Going to be a 6.2 truck but the exhaust KIT can be for anything as long as its designed for the K5 Chassis.

Somebody must still make a true dual kit for this chassis.

The exhaust on the 84 K5 chassis is still intact but is well used up.

These systems were a tad small anyway and the mufflers had Zero authority to them :D

I know, I can take it to a muffler shop, but these guys want $800 Plus for a system.

The frame is bare right now so I have real easy access to the entire exhaust and can easily install/build a custom kit.

Any suggestions or recomendations from using a particular product.

I have found a couple of "Universal KITS" but I am not wanting to gamble that they will work.

Thanks for the info.

I am trying very hard to keep everything under the truck as uncluttered as possible.

Looks like I am going to carefully cut off the old pipes right at the mufflers and then have the pipes cloned in the larger size at the muffler shop.

If I have the pipe made a tad long I can trim as need be to get them all in where they need to fit

Once I have the new pipes and mufflers, I can install them easily now while the body is off the frame.

The old dead engine is still in the chassis and will give me a perfect oportunity to mock everything up and when done it will all fit perfectly.

I dont even want to screw with this once the body is back on the frame.

That kit looks good, although the X pipe would be a real bitch in that K5 chassis with the T case and all right in the way.

Thanks for the input.

800$???
you need to find a better shop. I only paid 450$ for a custom made 4" for my dually. The K5 6.2 came factory with duals anyway. The pipes were kinda small though. 2 1/4 IIRC. Yeah mufflers were like car ones. Maybe a factory system with better mufflers ? They don't make much for the old iron anymore. I'd look for a better ex shop. 800$ is outrageous. FWIW My 90 Burb had a custom 3inch stainless kit on it but I bought it that way and PO did not remember where he got it (older guy). Maybe they still make it. He said it was a kit and came with a pyro(was a cheepy). I no longer have the truck but the system was atleast 5 yrs old and still looked new.

If I were you, I'd spend as little as possible so you won't feel so bad when you scap it for a 4inch to compliment the banks turbo you know you will eventually add....:rof:

My blazer has the original badly rusted duals on it with some sort of performance mufflers. Gives it a nice low rumble that turns into a huge roar when i whack the loud pedal.

Stock the exhaust was 2 1/2 from exhaust manifold to muffler. Then it was 2 1/4 out of the muffler. Not sure why GM did this. On my system it looks like where the tailpipes join to the mufflers the pipe is expanded to 2 1/2. I'm not sure if that's factory, or if it was done when the mufflers i have were installed. Either way they leaked like crazy until i welded the seam.

Kenny i agree that the pipes are too small. Ever try to hold your hand over one? You can't. It literally pushes your hand off with the pressure, and that's at an idle. A nice free flowing system with 2 1/2" mandrel bent dual setup front to rear would certainly help.

I like a single 4inch myself but the advantage of duals on a N/A is if you got a bad inj or HG it's easy to tell which side is the issue...:D

Yup for sure.

I like the sound of the duals on a 6.2

If you use the right mufflers/pipes, they sound almost like a Big Block, except for the rattle from under the hood.
