DRLs defeat ?

Just to condense things:

DRL disable
96-00c - pull the fuse labled "drl" or unplug the cigarette pack sized finned black heat sink located near the steering column.
99-07c - pull the fuse labled "drl" or remove the bulbs (note automatic headlights will still function)

Temporary auto headlight disable (auto headlamps re-activated on next start-up)
Late 00-02 - push dome lamp override 3 times within 6 seconds
03-07c - move headlamp switch to "O" position

Permanant auto headlight disable
99-07c - remove photoresistor (located on right of defrost vent) and install diode in it's place. You can also install a diode at the BCM, however I feel it much simpler to simply unplug the photoresistor instead of messing with the BCM plugs and cutting wires.

It would be real simple to wire in a toggle switch too. I never considered that before this thread, but now I may do just that.

Like this?

Yes, this is a factory DLR Off switch for 95-2000 C/K Trucks SUVs. :D

Devin you forgot to mention what those came in......

Police Package Tahoes :D

That would be the perfect addition if you wanted to be able to switch the DRLs on or off.

Yes yes, specifically Police Package (RPO Z56) Tahoes (2WD & 4WD) in 1998 and 1999 only.

GM Part No. 15742071
AC Delco Part No. D1523F

The 9C1 Impalas had them from 2000-2005 model years as well but it was labeled as "surveillance mode." Hitting that switch would kill the DRL's during the day and all the interior lights as well. I would roll around constantly with that switch on during the day times.

At night, it killed everything.....

Except the brake lights...<---the one set of lights that it actually needed to kill. Nothing like creeping through a neighborhood all stealthed out and your brake lights light up the whole road. :mad2:

Good thing my 07 CVPI dosent have any friggen auto headlights. I do however need a tune for it. ):h

the dome override was for turning off auto-headlights IIRC. A function that is NOT available on the '99 and partway through '00 pickups

That's exactely what I'm looking for....):h

How to do that ? cut and splice harness to PCM and add a 1.5Kohms resistor, pull the light sensor and replace it with a diode (or a resitor)

I saw several replies and I'm a bit lost.

So, anybody owning a 1999 Silverado succeed in deleting auto headlights, and how ? :D

:iagree: I know, right?

So the three stabs at the DOB will in fact off the DRL's (friends '00 GMC) I least I know now I wasn't going more nuts.

I have that feature on my rig. Does make it nice when running in stealth mode.

There are a few different ways that have been discovered over the years. When I had my '99 GMC I removed the sensor in the dash and put a resistor in it's place. It's fairly easy to remove the dash if you know where to tug and what screws to remove.
