Does PMD failure mean pump failure?

Well... i did not heed the warning and now I'm paying for it:nonod:. Both of my trucks simultaniously started doing all the simtoms that come with PMD failure.

I now have to replace them and get the remote mount.

Does this mean my pump is in failure as well?

Also anyone know the best place to get them at a good price besides flebay? I'm not sure if I should trust those units.

Your PMD failure does not mean pump failure. If you go to Pensacola Injection, I have found thier prices the best and service excellent. Don't even remove the old one, just mount the new outside the engine bay.

PMD failure is fixable; look to our vendors first; they support our site and their warranty and customer service for our members has been excellent.

Bill at HeathDiesel and Leroy at PMDcable both offer 7-yr warranty... Leroy will also offer a lower warranty at a lower price.

Did all the grounds already. When I first got the truck I was having a charging problem and traced the grounds being bad. I replaced all the terminals on the battery also.

Did the wiggle test also

Inspected the wires for burns loose connections or chaffing

The first time I noticed something is when I put it in reverse it lunged like I stepped on the gas hard ...... a little scary when ur not fully awake yet.

If your problem turns out to be PMD failure, check out Pennsacola Fuel Injection. They do not sell any Stanadyne PMDs. Theirs are made by Flight Systems.

I just ordered their remote mount PMD. Expect it in a few days. Their price includes free shipping.

By the way, I am not affiliated with them in any way shape or form. I'm just a customer who checked out almost all the webbsites selling PMDs and found their price to be the most reasonable. Warranty is one year. If the warranty concerns you, I'd check with some other vendor.

Also in this forum somewhere, there is a thread about Pennsacola Fuel.

These guys on this forum are sharp. :thumbsup:They will help you diagnose your problem to make sure it is the PMD. :smile5:

Good luck.

that is worrisome, I have had both ip failure and pmd failure. when the pmd went it exhibited all the classic signs of stalling, however when the ip went the symptoms were random stalling and the occasional engine revving. no runaway but it was like someone hit the throttle 3 times in a row in rapid succession. rapid meaning faster than you can step on the pedal 3 times in a row yourself. it did that on my way home from a 600 mile road trip. musta stalled 30-50 times and did the rapid revving 3 or 4 times. once it did it while i was outside the truck with the engine just idling. shot black smoke out when it happened to. oh, and it's not fun when the engine stalls with a camper on and an 18ft. boat with no trailer brakes. guess the boat was just under the weight limit for brakes being mandatory. Mine did that SURGE in reverse thing 5 yrs ago... was the PMD. Put on a Heath Isolator, hasn't surged since.

I gotta tell ya, when you're in a tight parking lot with a Mercedes driving behind you and the truck SURGES in reverse like that, you sure pucker up the seat covers!!

well it does the random stalling also some times when its warming up, some times a few times in a row, and some times would go for awhile without it happening.

When I first got the truck I ran out of fuel a couple of times ( because I didn't realize that E= : you waited to long to fuel so start walking ). Most cars can go a little bit. It also got me cuz the gauge moves irradically. it would go from an 1/8 tank to, start walking bitch.

Anyway, I pulled the bezel, installed some white face gauges and filled up with fuel and adjusted back the fuel gauge so now it gives me a little.

So after this is when it started but I thought it was the fuel system from running out so I did the whole cleaning and system check. I'm pretty sure its the PMD. I'm sure I didn't help the life of the pump doing this stuff but I'll replace the PMD and see how she does.

You adjusted your fuel gauge? I think I need to do this. Mine is pointing downward some times.:) You have a factory one or aftermarket? IF factory, was it tough?

It is factory and super easy. Should only take you a few minutes to do. All you have to do is un-clip the radio, a/c, gauge surround. Put the truck in D1 un do the few wire harness clips. Then the gauge cluster comes out in a couple of easy to get to bolts. Open the gauge cluster then take a flat head screw driver, slide it under the gauge needle, it pops off, put it to face where you want and slide it back on and your done.

I just topped off my tank around the corner, came back to my house and adjusted the gauge to be at the F mark instead of so far ahead of it. Now when its on E it really still has a couple of gallons left and I don't ever have to walk again....... its also good if you lend your truck out once in a while. If its not your truck you would never know that E means Not a drop left.

Come to think of it, not sure why GM never adjusted the gauge like this in the first place.
