DMAX fan cure for overheating ???

The spin on waterpump has been proven to have more flow. These trucks have issues with getting enough colant to the back of the motor so the 2000 WP(The one Heath sells with his kit) is the way togo. it's pricey. Almost 200$ but well worth it. As far as the Dmax fan, I'm running a steel 9 blade with the Hayden SD clutch and I had no problem towing long grades during 4th July weekend in 95+ heat.

Paveltolz- all good, no worries. I appreciate all the feedback.

Gotta sort the options out... any purchase right now for me is on very limited funds- unemployment for 19 months is getting very, very old.

Ok, went out and checked fan twice- engine cold, and after a decent drive. It was harder to turn the fan when cold- easier to spin when hot. Actually, fairly tight when cold. Does this mean anything?

I re-read all the posts and it appears that the best option is a 2000 water pump and corresponding clutch and 9 blade fan. Correct?

Looking at rock auto... looks like a 500 dollar or so fix/upgrade...

500$ is about right. I think Heaths whole kit is 629$ with the stat so that maybe worth it. My 2000 already had everything but the Fan clutch factory so that is why I didn't use it but for a 95 Heath's kit is probably the best way to go.

ug. may have to just live with this. Had zero problems in moderate weather, so may have to just be careful til then and not idle much.

More inclined to replace the harmonic balancer... funny shake and squeak when I shut off.

I am very happy with my ol 6.5 right now- all the work I have done this year has turned it in to a veritable new truck, but with 340k miles on the clock it's hitting the wallet OFTEN!

Looks like roughly $150 from rock auto for stock 95 model fan clutch only. For another $50 I might just go ahead and get the DMAX fan with 4 bolt clutch to fiT my old model/stock pump (fleebay link previously posted). Gravy?

I bolted the dmax fan onto my 95 clutch. I also did fan clutch mod. I now need to undo the clutch mod because it stays at 190* when not towing. It only goes to 210* up long steep grades when egts are at 11/1200 suatained. The fan was 62.00 shipped from rock auto. With discount.

I've still got my SSDIESEL fan clutch from my 95, it only had about 2,000 miles on it and is still in good shape. I could send it to you for $20 + shipping if you're interested(tried to PM you, but it says you can't receive em). Add in a DMAX fan blade from ROCKAUTO for $50 and you should be set.

Fan is always on and I lost 1-2 mpg. I miss 20-22mpg. If I undo the fan clutch mod. it should come on around 200* and therefore not suck power from the engine when not needed. I also just put a new radiator in and now the gauge doesn't move at all off 185 unless towing.

Brother,

Change that harmonic balancer.

Signed,

3 piece crankshaft.

PS,

Can I get a part number for that DMAX fan?

I just went to Rockauto and looked under 01 K2500 Silverado HD. The Rockauto number for the AC Delco 9 blade plastic fan is 1580690 at $53.79 plus shipping. The discount code is 35424052759483, good until Sept 5, 2010. Just for curiosity I also checked from 01 up to 05 and they all call for the same.

Ordered fan blade for DMax, AC Delco harmonic balancer, and clutch from THEFERMANATOR (thanks!) today. Once all that comes in, gonna have a fun filled day on front of the motor and go vacuum pump delete at the same time. Might as well do it all at once...since I will be in the neighborhood! Hope this helps my mileage some too.
