Did I make the right choice?

Hello all. I recently (just yesterday) traded my 2000 pontiac bonneville se with 188k miles for a 1994 chevrolet k2500 6.5td did I make the right decision. It has a manual trans and 234k miles on it. The injectors and glow plugs were supposedly replaced but the one injector is leaking and the low coolant light kicks on alot. Was I jipped oUT of a better vehicle than this or was I wrong?

check to make sure you do not have a head gasket or head issue with the losing of coolant. Get the injector changed. May want to pull them all and have them tested. If they used cheap injectors, it may save you aggravation in the

sOUNDS LIKE A DEAL TO ME IF you don't have to pull a head.

If you have to get tearing into it, Just as well do the timing chain, Leroy diesel has a timing gear set - In my opinion, that's the way to go.

If the coolant level is ok the sensor in the plastic tank maybe going bad.

FWIW rust free diesel trucks with a blown engine go for $1000 give or take and you are keeping it from junkyard buyers. High mile sedans that run and drive go for the same. 4X4 Diesel trucks that run and drive are in the $4000 range. I bet the bonneville was a nice car so call it $2500... Sedans just don't have the value of a 4x4 truck.

Look around here and we can help the *cough* minor issues you have. Major to me takes context of haul out drivetrain from totaled truck... :D

Unless the truck is all rusted out you came out on top of the swap.

Like mentioned above:
Low coolant light- is it actually low?

When you say "leaky injector" Please explain. Is it leaking fuel to the outside of the engine? Does the truck have a slight misfire and the old owner told you it is a leaky injector?

Let us know, we'll walk you through the fix.

Also how are you planning to use the truck- towing heavy vs grocery getter almost no load vs play toy wanting more power for spinning mud in the air?

Well it seems great. I believe they used cheap shit it doesn't even start when it's 60°F. Yeah I should've looked at it more. I don't know much about the 6.5td or any other diesels. Just know there priceier.

The injector drips fuel out the injector area. It's consistent drip but it may be shooting out when I'm going down the high way at 70mph and the temperature gauge stays below 210°F so I assume there's plenty of coolant it did a 335 mile trip back home from where I got it.

And I plan on using it as a daily no load or hardly ever. Just wanted a truck just turned out to be diesel. They cUT the catalytic converter out and there's nothing running the rest of the length of the exhaust is still there but just cut the cat out and left it that way so it's hello loud.

And there's no rust that I can see just peeled paint and dirty. And runs a bit rough but I can't tell what it would run like if it were 100% mechanically sound.

if your handy pull the injector then separate it into 2 halves get a piece of glass and glue some 2000 grit wet or dry sandpaper to it. lap the 2 halves and put it back together. sounds like cheapie rebuilds

if it runs rough crack open the injector lines one at a time while running and see which one make the biggest difference in how it runs. Similar to pulling off a spark plug wire the poorest running cylinder will make the least amount of change

DO NOT stick your finger tip against the leak area to try finding it. It is high enough pressure to cut you up.

If you can, post a video or pic showing us where it is leaking. If it is the line nut that attaches to the injector, or if it is out of the middle of the injector.

Look close, it could be the little 1/8" return lines that go from one injector to the next. This is the most common leak point.

Ok I'll do that once I'm back home they tried fixing it and it was a return line that was leaking but will get a video tommorow of it

With a 1994 you will want to do the lift pump relay upgrade. You can make one yourself or buy one from leroydiesel.com. Get the prime feature and a toggle switch so you can run the lift pump whenever you want - good for doing diagnostics and priming the fuel filter when you change it.

You can test the glow plugs with continuity tester, in the truck, with the wire removed. I us Ac Delco 60G's Others use Bosch duraterms.

as far as I know there are no other glow plugs worth buying or installing.

I would check the glow plugs to see if that is your hard start issue.

Also have your batteries load tested. These 6.5's require good batteries and battery cables to start good.

You could also have a fuel leak down issue causing you grief.

Can you put the link in the reply please I'm on his page but don't know what I'm looking for. This is my first time owning a diesel.
