Despite what you guys think i'm not dead yet.

What plastic buttons are you guys talking about ? That's a new one on me but I have never had the heads off a 6.5 yet. Hvae had them off 6.2 don't remember seeing anything like that.

They are the rocker arm retainers.

Hi ya'll long time no posty... hehe. Been a rough go for me lately.

Anyhow, i have a question that may already be answered.

Today i fired up the 96 GMC after already driving for 2 hours. It started woofing out the intake (air filter) real bad, engine didn't shake at all, i shut it down and re-fired it 3 times, woofing went away on the last start, anyone got any ideas. Seemed to me like a valve got stuck or a piece of garbage got in it and blew itself clear, drove for another 2 hrs without incident? Any ideas?

Rigger -

Had the EXACT same thing happen on my truck. Eventually it kept coming more often, until one day it happened while driving down the road:eek:.

Turned out to be a badly cracked valve spring.

Regards,

Thanks Golds, gotta be in the valve train somewhere (i hope). It didn't do it on a cold fire this morning or most of the day. Then started it and it was woofing again, shut it down and restarted and all was well. I'm not 100% sure yet but i think its staring to use some antifreeze too, light just started to become intermitent on/off.

I checked the EGR gaskets and stuff and all looked well, PMD was on the way out so i put in a temp one on a cooler for now. I just don't have the facility's at my disposal right now to do anything, maybe have to go get the Cummins and start driving it again.

If its a valve spring you better do it quick. I had an engine with a bad set of springs and I only had a little bit of time before the spring spiraled down and would let it munch the valve.
