Demonic Posseion, Need exorcist...Won't shut off

I don't know if it's related but I've seen it happen on gassers, the alternater will back feed if the diodes are bad and the engine won't shut off. You might try unplugging the alt if there is a next time. Carry a gallon of holy water in case that doesn't work or go to church twice a week.

+2.

Well par for the cost I got screwed again. why does this stuff happen to me ? I finally get the truck running sweet and I went to replace the Hitch and the frame is rotted. This truck is no longer safe to tow anything. I f'in give up. I'm putting the camper up for sale tommorow. Seling this truck as well. Screw it. I wasn't meant to enjoy life. I'll keep the CUCV. It's the only decent thing I own.

Here's what it looks like. No towing for this truck.:mad2:

Kenny, just looking at the pics, I think you're over reacting. It just looks like surface rust. If you're concerned put a backing plate behind the bolts and stitch the plate to the frame. The hitch looks the worst.

If you look where the crossmember is it actually rotted through. I descaed it. I would not trust this frame to haul any kind of seriuos weight. The lower horizontal part of the rail is paper thin. To correct it propery I would have to remove the crossmember and fuel tank and plate it past the spring hanger which is more work than I want to do to this truck. I'm either going to sell it or dismantle it. Believe me, I stared at it for a good hour thinking , cold I just get away with plating from the crosmember back which would be easy, but at this point in my life I don't want to watch my camper break loose on the highway and kill someone's family. I've become more cautious in my old age. 20yrs ago I would have throw washers on it and ran it.

Oh it gets better. I just spent 2 hrs at the eye doctor getting a piece of rust out of my eye. 5 more mins of that hook and I would have confessed to the Kennedy assisnation. And yes I was wearing a face mask. I think I'm just going to sell everything for now and keep the CUCV. I'm sending it out to have the alt problem fixed cause if I touch it, it will probably burn to the ground.
My other issue with the burb is , I consider my self a decent amatuer welder. A snow plow, A payloader bucket, a rake etc etc. But when it comes to something structural driving down the road I tend to leave it to a certified welder which I am not and the cost of fixing the frame correctly would outweigh the value of the truck.

To bad you weren't my neighbor. One guy drove his truck into my shop with both frame rails broke, just a 1/2" piece of the top lip on each side holding it together. It looked like a saddle. IIRC <$150 later he drove it out.

I know what you mean with metal in the eyes, I lost count after a dozen times. I can't even watch someone put in contacts.

Maybe take a break for a few days. Do you know any welders or body shops? Times are slow, beer and cash can go along way to having someone rebox it. If that is the worst thing on the truck, then your doing ok,

Here's some more pics. I repaired the top of the frame cause I had to replace the body crossmember that the tailgate bolts to. What a horrible job. Nasty rust. I could have cleaned the quarters up better but it's like "where do you draw the line". The problem I ran into was that the new tailpan assmbly is too wide to install without either jacking the body off the frame or removing a quarter. Screw that. I whacked 8 inches off with the sawzall. I welded the piece back in after the pan was in place. it fit like shit and some of the bolts the nuts were screwed up. LMC sucks. The tailgate didn't line up too good either but I used the sledgeomatic precision tailgate alignment tool for a perfect fit...:D
Oh well. It's done now.
I wold never attempt this again.Just plain nasty.

I salute you in your concern for your and others safety on shying away from frame repairs. Further the liability aspect of someone who buys this from you with a welded frame. Frame fails and guess what previous owner also gets sued after they clean up the bodies.

I have seen places junk a pickup over a cracked non-rusty frame for this liability reason.

That is why excatly why I removed the hitch. If someone else is stupid enough to put one back on then it's thier problem. I can fix it to be safe, I just don't think the truck is worth the time. It would be alot of work to do it properly and properly is the only way I would do it. To make it safe the fuel tank and rear crossmember need to be removed and the frame needs to be plated and boxed beyond the rear spring hanger. Pass isde isn't as bad. It could be boxed from the crossmember back.

Would it cost to much to set it all on a good frame? I have a friend that bent his fram past the point of fixing and bought another frame and just swaped over everything.

I'm gittin ol. I did whole frame swaps when I was 20...:D
It's ALOT of work. Easier to fix what's there. It's not that bad. I did a shortbed that had a bent/broken frame one time and I swore I'd never do it again. Christine(The trucks name) conviently developed an issue with the Fuel tank pick tube So I had to drop the tank anyway so maybe I'll fix it.:suicide:
