Dash Removal Progress

It has a manifold and 3 lines: blue, red and yellow. Blue hooked up to high side, red low side and the yellow hooked up to one of 3 threaded fitting at the middle of the manifold to be used for the vac pump. No idea how to hook up a can of refrigerant. Not covered in the directions. On the road right now so no idea on the exact model gauges, but they're US made.

As you have this thing out and on the ground, REPLACE the heater core.

The time and BS to get back in there is more than anyone should need to do.

With likely many many miles on the truck, the core is not pristine on the inside any more.

The old one wont start leaking until winter when you really need it.

There is a little can adpater that locks onto the top of the can and has a schrader port on it that will accept the yellow hose.

The adapter has a little device tha grabs the top of the can and then you tighten the center piece and it pierces the can top.

Missy, I was able to install the heater core with the entire dash installed. That is covered by the lowest panel on the HVAC box which I was able to remove and install in place. It was in good condition. I sent the Chinese replacement back to RockAuto as the pipes to it were somewhat loose at their base and I was not comfortable installing it in that condition.

I need that can adaptor for the yellow hose. So when running it, do you open the valves on the manifold?

WTF was that monkey thing??? :)

It was an actual photo of a kitten born with one eye. Stumbled upon it doing a search for something else. Reportedly it only lived for a day. I just thought that the one eye represented a single minded focus necessary to finish the job, what with my wife holding up the dash with her legs as if she was in stirrups :)
