Just got one and I am never going back :D

The previous owner told me that he put in a new clutch after he turned the fuel plate up.

Can it harm the engine to have it turned up or can I just enjoy all the horspower it give the engine?

GUAGES hould be first on the list if it doesn't already have them. Keep the EGT's in check and you should be fine.

it has boost and exhaust temp gauges. I go easy on her I want at least 300k miles hopefully with the same injection pump.

Are there any good after market lift pumps for a 1997 cummins 12 valve that you all know of?

raptor or airdog for the cummins...JMHO

If you're not going to go big with the tune, then I would save your money and run the stock lift pump. Just make sure the fuel system is in good shape and that the sock in the tank is clean and you should be alright. The stock 97 12 valve lift pump is the same one that came on the 8.3L at 350HP in stock form, and was also used in marine applications up to about 450HP.

A friend of mine had an F350 ford that he swapped a 12Valve into and he cranked that thing all the way up, and still ran the stock lift pump...For long endurance I cant say how long it would last..But his did good..he had it about 2 years then sold the truck, and still ran like the day he did it..OH he also had a set of 4000rpms Gov springs in it....It SMOKED jet black, the EGT's where to control on really hot days...So I suggest gauges like everyone else...
