Cruise Control

The cruise just quit on my 93 with the DB2. I think it's a bit different from the later models. Anyway I can't see any obvious problem like a blown fuse or anything. Need some help trouble shooting it. Thanks
 
hmm. Can you take a picture of the box attached to your cable? I have only had to fix a couple of them over the years, and usually It was the cable wearing out causing too much drag. In fact, only 1 time was there an electronic board failure. Make sure the cable moves freely is where I normally started.

Check your brake switch isn't hanging up, that was most common "electrical" issue.
 
Most likely Cruise Control Switch in the column (A real Bitch to swap out with the wires going all the way through the column ), cable adjustment, brain box on firewall. Connections, Grounds...


@Will L. It's the same stepper motor "Box" the throttle cable gas engines use.

Ok guys thanks a bunch!! I'm going to go back through and recheck everything but I'm thinking WW is probly right about the switch, the cable seems free, and thinking about it, it had gotten so's I had to push the button a time or two or hold it in for a few extra seconds to get it to take. But before I change it I'll check everything again and the brake switch for sure.

It is too bad that there is not some kind of a device to hook to the switches wire terninal under the dash to check the switches functions. At least there is none that I know of.
 
Useless anyway. Supposedly Dealers have the tester boxes, replaced the stepper motor box, and then told me the switch was bad. I replaced my own switch three states later when the eBay special got home.
 
You can check the switch with a test light. It's nothing complex, just 4 wires, 1 is powered, and each of the 3 others is powered with a different function. You have to backprobe to test them, but it's very doable. And I didn't find the switches that bad to do in the 90's style column, yes the 80's column was tighter, but I just used a piece of 80 lb fishing line, and some tape to wrap around the connector when I put the new one in.

Making the above a little clearer: The old wire pulls the fishing line through and then the new wire gets pulled through with the fishing line. Of course it hangs up in a couple places just to keep it real. Starter rope, a run of wire, etc can all be used for the fishing line.
 
When things are not right, adding more to the mix always makes diagnosing worse.

But once it is working ok, that cruise control will save decent $ on mpg.
