Confused about Why It won't Start

GMTDScan is your friend. Free version will let you see all the engine parameters. You just need to purchase a GM OBD1 ALDL cable for about $65.

Or you can buy the full version and the cable from Engh Motors for about $200, or a little more depending on the exchange rate. It would be a good idea to run the timing learn procedure just to see if its been timed at all.

High Idle is indicative of a bad CTS or a bad timing source, since it would go into backup fuel mode, aka limp mode. It should be giving off codes though if it was a timing source.

Thanks for the info buddy. After talking with Turbine Doc last evening, I think I unplugged the wrong CTS when I was trying to debug it the other day. The CTS was another thing that we suspected might be causing the problems. If you recall, it always does have the SES light on, so I know it's setting codes, I just can't read them by jumpering the 2 pins. I'm going to get the new nozzles in, new lift pump installed, and a few other things (including a minor timing tweek) and if I don't get it running soon after that, I'll certainly be purchasing the cable/software. I already have the Ross Tech setup for VW's, so I may just purchase this as well so that I'm equipped to work with the 6.5L's as well. Thanks again for the help.

I thought the same thing as I was reading through the thread.

I would probably go back through the glow plug system as previouly suggested. The ether and booster charging may have refried them. You could also rig a manual override.

The first thing to do is make sure you have 2 good batteries.

Before I spent another dime on that truck I would do a compression check...
