Clearwater customer service SUCKS!!!!

My heads came from a large dealer for AMG. Their main business is rebuilding engines for Military HMMWVs. I'm sure they are AMG heads. It was a hassle dealing with them, but it worked out in the end.
Yours could very well be genuine AMG,i aint disproving that.
But,

one of these chinese suppliers I mentioned would/could not disclose the name of the sole American importer they dealt with on the "grounds" they said ,that their contract with them strictly forbade them to do so.

Makes a guy wonder who that "secret" American party is??

Not bad advice, but, you should not have to...

And I am going to blame Clearwater 100%. There were the last to handle the part. I will not tear down a 'long block' to check oil passages - as that is what I would buy. They would get the cratered engine back... They can deal with their supplier on the issue!

I would mail them a letter with pictures along with CC the BBB.

Thanks for posting as there is a lot of keeping quiet on bad vendors going on till it is too late.

Sure you should, ANY new block/head/crank etc should be throughly cleaned out, never ASSUME, ):h

blame china

Why? Blame us for being cheap ass's, hence why everything is being made in China, to keep costs down. Alot of high end name brand products are made in China and shipped here, but it depends on which product as the cheap shit is still cheap shit, but the high end stuff is usually good.

Just my two cents worth here. You can get real good high quality parts and especially castings from China. The importer must be diligent and inspect every item that goes out, this is the best policy. Even then you have parts that make it through that may be (functional irregulars) .

Parts that are on the border of being usable. The Chinese culture is much different from ours. They waste nothing and if the part is marginal and can be used they ship it. This is where our American culture and theirs differ, we assume, they don't. You must be very specific and courteous when dealing with the manufacturer, they are a culture that is based on honor, so there are specific ways of dealing with the manufacturer that will either make or break your relationship and quality of parts.

ClearWater should clearly check each block before it goes out now that they are aware there might be an issue. One issue like this is not their fault but issues like this after being made aware of a potential problem is.

Part of being a good vendor or seller is owning up to an issue that was clearly not the purchasers fault. Of course there are purchasers out there that abuse this as well.

My two cents worth.

Incidentally, the boxes said "Made in Canada" on them. So I'm guessing they are cast by International (they have the diamonds cast on them) and then machined or at least assembled in Canada?

Well, Made in Canada mystery solved! :pat:
I was cleaning up some old boxes and took another look at the the "Made in Canada" head boxes. I noticed it looks like they have been taped twice and a part number 12555733, which are intake gaskets. So it seems that they reboxed the heads in the Made in Canada gasket box.

Yea, it makes me kook a little silly, but that is what I get for reading half of the label. :errr:

So, I can state the AMG heads did not come from Canada, sorry to mislead you guys.

Does that prove my hunch correct?
No
Did these heads came in carton or wooden boxes?
They came in cardboard boxes.

You know the casting #?
Yes

It appears that in the right hand top corner of the head, on the valve cover mating surface the machining looks uneven and has a slight step in it.

I have seen this machining defect more or less on all the stock OEM heads i 've seen so far.
On the chinese heads however,I have not seen this defect, the machining has overall been spotless on the 6 heads from 2 diff factories i have/or used.
I got some pics if you want to compare.

Based on that ,yours could still be genuine.
one more way to tell is that the stock precups are non magnetic, the chinese cups are magnetic.

I never had any question these were real GEP heads. There is no step on the valve cover surface, but there is a color change, it looks like where the cutter was removed. The precups are non magnetic, as are the exhaust valves, which have a "T" stamped on the valve heads. Valve sizes are 46mm X 39mm Casting # is 10137567

Just an addition to this thread to keep tabs on the service from Clearwater.

Truck's owner shipped the defective head back under the warranty. Clearwater says that head is fine, it's an engine problem and they want to send that exact head back, which is BS because that engine ran perfectly fine on all 8 save for combustion pressure in the cooling system from a bad HG.

The words "bad experience" would be an understatement.
