Anyone ever use a detailing spray on a tractor and or implements?

Black Magic CD-2 or Gunk-Shine. How about 303 spray or other?

When I bought my used JD 5603 tactor it had a very nice wet look or shine that actually seemed to repel some dirt/dust and grass chafe etc.

When done cutting brush and pastures I like to blow off the rotary cutter and tractor with a leaf blower to keep the grass chafe and clipping from accumulating and sticking after getting rained on.

Well last week was in a real rush and did not get to blow off after cutting. Dew and a shower wet the grass and it stuck (won't blow off). So I mixed up some car wash and sprayed on then hosed off to remove the grass. This worked but cut the shine off and I suspect it won't blow off as easy either next time. I would like to renew this low-stick shine what do you recommend? I want something to help keep the grass, dirt, and chafe from sticking and accumulating on everything so I can just blow it off and keep it reasonably clean.

Do you wax your hood or put on 303 spray? Its plastic but painted what is better for protection and keeping clean?

Armor-All is ok I guess but am a bit scared of it. 20 ish years ago I worked at Kmart in the automotive section. I noticed stocking shelves Armor-All took some of the paint off the shelf where bottles leaked. Have heard rumors it can deteriorate some stitching too????

I like 303 spray better. I use it on my boat vinyl seats and truck dash etc. An outdoor place that sold "plastic canoe's" suggested 303 to me a long time ago and claimed it was what is recommended for plastics and was superior uv protection. I use turtle wax ice on interiors as it won't cloud up clear dash plastic. I have spotted a guage cluster clear plastic with Armor-All before. :-( Been careful with plastic and vinyl conditioners ever since. Not sure if 303 will mess up clear plastic but turtle wax ice has not spotted any of mine yet.

But the JD plastic seems to be painted??? and I wonder if a paint will be better protected by a polish and maybe spray underside with 303 or the above mentioned detailer sprays???
 
oops CD2 or CD-2 engine detailing spray seems to be discontinued and was made by Blue Coral and not a Black Magic product. Black Magic does have an engine cleaner / dressing but seems different than Gunk.

According to google searches leading to detailing forums some suggest Mequiar's Hyperdressing as an alternaltive to CD2.

Still searching.

I used to work for Action truck caps and we only used 303 protectant on all of the tonneau covers we would sell. Even the companies that sold stuff for conditioning their own vinyl covers weren't as good as it.

He told me (don't know the science of it, i never bothered to check his facts) that armor all brings the oils in plastic to the surface, but ends up drying it out. I noticed it do nasty stuff to tires (people using it as a tire shine) and dry them out real bad. What you want is something that adds oils and stuff into the plastic.

How true that is? i have no idea, but the stuff did do a good job and kept any vinyl or plastic looking great.

I missed this at first but think blue-coral and black magic are linked somehow by corporate ownership. But are seperate divisions and each have families of products???
 
No real surprise JD did not recommend anything for engine and tractor casting so far.

We would not have any product which we would directly recommend for use on your engine, but Meguiar's M34 Final Inspection would be a good product to use for your undercarriage areas to clean up light dust & dirt. Hyper dressing is a water based dressing for non-painted vinyl,plastic,or rubber.

I sprayed some Gunk Shine on a few areas and its a bit oily and I'll have to see if it dries and does better with a little age. Might need hosing off the excess and weather on some before I try cutting grass with it. I think its more or less very similar to Orange-Glo gives a wet look but not sure if it actually does much protecting (other than since the surface is oily more oil won't dry on the surface. I doubt seriously it has any UV protection or provides benefit for the paint. Might actually hurt the paint over time.

I wouldn't trust it on old vinyl, like in the 73-87 trucks, but the newer truck dashes, which were hard plastic won't be affected adversely from it. I use to put it on my 98 K1500 back before i knew any better and my dash is still okay. It's a bit dried out looking, but it's actually better due to the anti-glare effect.
 
I am somewhat surprised that there doesn't seem to be a product like I am looking for. Something you can spray on and provides some protection for cast parts you can't polish or wax.

While looking at my boat I ran across a Mercury / Quicksilver product called Corrosion guard. For spraying on salt water marine engines that is harmless to paint but helps protect painted/bare "engines assemblies". Suppose to help where ever the paint edges will seperate due to rust flaking and corrosion penetration under paint.

According to product description its suppose to dry clear and leave a dry clear film but one google hit brought back someone who says its oily residue and he wants to remove it?????

Anyone ever use it?

It's probably nothing more than a clear grease, you can achieve the same thing by smearing bearing/chassis grease on parts, but it will be dirty looking obviously but it will protect it.

You could probably just go for a clear/transparent grease if you want to retain that bare metal look.
 
i avoid armor all like the plague.

You should verify your deere is painted and not dyed with a gel coat.
 
Thanks, good point it probably is not paint but a top finish of some type. If you scratch it the color/texture is slightly different underneath. It does not flake off like paint. I have only ever heard of gelcoat as in for a fiberglass surface never thought of it for plastic parts.

The plastic parts are really the more easy parts to wash and protect. The smooth finished surfaces have many products to use as in polish / wax. And I feel like 303 is good product for the unfinished side of plastic and now feel better about finished side. Will double check that it is a gelcoat though.

But what about the rougher cast surfaces of the engine, transmission, and rear axle. Those are the areas that there are not many products that apply.

I am not trying to be anal and go crazy about keeping it showroom like but its quite an investment for me and would like it to last a long time and look good. I think not taking care of it would be neglectful, wasteful, and a shame.
 
I'm not a paint pro so I dont know what tgey coat plastic with, all of the bigger tractors are fiberglass some painter some dyed

As for something to keep ot clean. A pressure washer . If ypu go through mud apply diesel fuel to the areas that could get covered. Then it will come off easier. I coat our manure equipment with a fresh coat after every washinh
 
I talked to the local Deere dealer detailer and he said he probably a wash and wax combo product mixed strong then dried it and rubbed it down with a sae 30 ND oil. He said make sure its dry and clean then "polish" it with the oil.

I have heard of rinsing fertilizer spreaders real real good then coating them with vegitable oil.
