Chinese made knockoff Waterpump vs GM one ??

Kenny, sorry i couldn't get your call. Work was hectic today, and we didn't have a WP in stock to even check.

My central air is dead. Somehow mice got in and fried at least one of the large caps and perhaps the contactor in the condenser "case" outside. Compressor's also there so it may have taken some damage. Hope not. Goddamn friggin mice. Hate the little bastards.

Don't even talk to me about that. Little shits. I don't just kill them, I make them suffer painfully. I sprayed one in the eye balls with berkibile carb cleaner. You have no idea the thousands in damage they have done around here.

I'd be more worried about the gap between the impeller and the pump body wear plate then the overall diameter.

Cheers
Nobby

i just installed bill heaths water pump and noticed the impeller difference i didnt see anything else the matter tho it all seemed to fit nice
what makes the newer ones balanced flow?? i figured that impeller differince was most on it Just a thought

The restrictor....if you have the dual T Stat setup.....I see your 1996, they came both ways, single and dual.....That was the crossover year.

The aftermarket parts FIASCO

It's a war on the aftermarket, the DIY guy... This cheap sub standard JUNK.

The trend of *automobiles* is go buy new, buy buy buy. Then when it goes bad, throw it away... But in the intirim take it to a dealer for consenual rape since they are factory trained to even lay a hand on your *automobile*.

Now for my rant:

It's an atrocity, everything is trying to point 'us' to buying or leasing a new vehicle, trading it in every three years or whatever, and accept no responsibility of vehicle ownership to maintain and do it yourself to save money. Case and point, the less parts *people* have to buy at the parts stores, the less demand there is for quality, 'as a whole'... Your common idiot doesn't care.

Bottom line is money, less quality, more profit for auto parts and the *Industry*

They want purchasers of new cars to let the DEALER do everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. It's like consensual RAPE...

Then we poor SOB's TRY and find at least OEM quality stuff to last us for a while on our jalopies and going to a 'stealership' is the only way to avoid the junk at the parts stores. Fine and dandy but the pricing structure f*cks us again because we will have to pay HIGH RETAIL for our shit. Then after so many years they discontinue the OEM stuff and start substituting other unknown crap for OEM...

It's getting to be way to political to maintain your own car. Or I'm getting way too cynical.

People say, "I shop at NAPA" (or insert name of some other store) because they have better stuff... BULLSHIT, Same junk, different store.

Most people don't care what they buy. They just want the cheapest thing they can get their hands on.

Ahhh, good to be alive, yes?

The start of this is when GM declared bankrupcy and Delphi followed.

I disagree, the start of this is with the American people in general. Manufacturers (who are people too) are looking for profit only and don't care about quality. We the consumers are just as bad wanting to buy the absolute cheapest parts until we get burned. This is just a symptom of our society

yeah, I don't disagree. The Delphi thing was more the scarcity of parts than quality. Damn, never thought I'd see the day I'd be scrounging the boneyard for parts for a 10 yr old Chevy.

Advance took the WP back NQA. The counter guy even said lately he's been steering people to remans so atleast the housing is right. I think in the future if I could not find one that lines up I'll just run it up to the machine shop and have it machined. The only thing that sucks is I was saving that old GM one for an experiment. Now I gotta wait for another dead 99+ WP. If anyone comes across one I'll pay shipping for it dead or alive. Gotta be 99+ hub type though.

Peninsular sometimes has "take off" threaded water pumps. That is where I got mine. They are from new AMG engines, probably as good as you will get these days. Certainly better than the Made in China stuff.

I work part time at Advance Auto, i've seen a lot of the "new" water pumps not machined right and at times the mounting area is warped too. I always steer people toward the "reman" units as they are better quality. BUT alas, most people look at the screen when i bring up the parts lists and say "why buy reman when i can buy new for $2 more - new is always better".. lol You wouldn't believe some of the poorly made parts i've seen there in the last few years. I bought a "new" water pump for my camaro, standard long water pump for a 350, you would think that as long as that's been made they could get it right. Nope. I returned it and bought a reman and made sure the casting had a GM number on it. Crap chinese parts.

Disgusting....Never thought I'd see the day when quality parts for a Chevy would be scarce. 10 yrs ago you could buy chevy parts at 7-11...:rof:

I know this is an old thread, but I had to chime in on the Peninsular take-offs. I bought one of them when I rebuilt my engine. I had overheating issues from day 1. I ordered the Heath clutch and plastic fan, which made some difference, but still the thing got hot climbing any hill empty. The pump, it seems, was for a non-turbo application as near as I can tell. I never have towed my trailer, cuz the truck gets hot when it was empty.

Fast forward a year or two, and the Peninsular pump started leaking out the weep hole. I bit the bullet and called Bill. He said he had yet another fan clutch that has a progressive engagement. Long story short, I purchased the pump and new clutch from him. Problem solved. I paid through the nose, but my overheating problem is no more. I never really hear Bill's fan make any more noise than when the truck is cool, but the truck just goes up a tad from 195 and never goes any higher.

I have some photos of the original GM pump, the Peninsular, and the new Heath that I want to post up. ...but I've been away for so long, I thought I'd come along and see what's up with things lately first. ...not a lot of chatter about Heath any more. Did he stop sponsoring the site?

I dont think he ever sponsored the site. Whenever someone builds good stuff, they do get talked about in a positive note, so alot of folks on the forum do praise him and his products, but I dont believe he has ever been involved.

thanks for the update on the pump. how cheap was the takeoff pump? I wonder if you can get it exchanged, and I also am wondering if you got a bad pump, or if all of them are sub-par.
