Chevy luv shoping

I'm thinking a luv or an El Camino w/ my 82s drive train or both for that matter.

A diesel luv just sounds like a good no motor swap starting point. The 82 can stay in its current pasture for awhile and there are more El Caminos than diesel luvs in the world

Isuzu made the Chevy Luv. (just like Mazda made the Ford Courier) I had 2 Chevy Luvs, both gassers, but shopped the diesels completely. They made no smoke at all, had good power, and great parts availability because Isuzu was hitting the American market like D-day at Normandy. I believe they had decades of experience making small diesels for reefer trailers and containers IIRC. I was disappointed with the strength of the general construction for the work I had to do, so I went back to Couriers. I went through a bunch of mini trucks over the years for work.

Check out the frame extensively especially behind the front tire. They are known to rot and break in half.

Would like to get one myself, but can not afford two projects.

Thanks, that's kinda what I figured. I really just want a cheaper parts chaser since I will be starting a slow resto on my 95. An easy 30mpg would be great.

Unless the ac is amazing and the truck is near perfect I might just pass. There is a real slick turbo 2.2l 4x4 on ebay for 5k that I would get before a non ac 2wd for 3k.

I wonder if a 2.2l could push a gm3? Lol

drove one for a guy i worked for......it got close to 40mph with camper shell and loaded with tools....4x4 too.....i had a 4x4 gaser.....great little trucks...

Well crap, Luv shopping and modding is going to be as addicting as a 6.5L.

So far found an engine/tranny (1.8L+5speed) and 2wd truck (2 separate but "on the way to eachother") and one decent 4x4 5speed 2.23L beater that could be ok.

I always liked the look of the 76 stepside. Kinda thought lowing it 6" and a blown small block would fit it nicely.

If I was to put a gasser in it I would go with an LS swap, 300hp out of the box and room to grow.

I think I'll be keeping these diesel UNLESS the gasser version is found to be good on propane.
