Ceramic coatings

When we did the assembly for our "Pugg" motor, we washed the piston tops and the heads, then sprayed with the VHT rattle-can. We taped off the inside fire-ring area on heads. It is not the best and certainly it is the least expensive, but still were impressed with how well it held up. After about 5,000km we opened the motor up to fire-ring it to install in our 3500. There was some evidence of wearing (did not look like flaking), but all in all for the preparation and cost of the product, it held up very good. At the same time we also sprayed the whole exterior of the center-mount turbo exhaust we fabbed. This is still like the day it was installed. The whole of the exhaust was also wrapped and taped all the way out of the engine bay. We figure that every little bit helps. It is very nice to pull hard, open the hood and put our hands anywhere on the exhaust or turbo compressor (usually cold to touch) and not get burned. For our current build, we have purchased new pistons to modify and Techline coatings for them. SmithvilleD, mentioned he had good results with the Techline products. They are still in-expensive, IMO for the benefits we feel are gained by using them.

Pepperidge, where did you get your pistons done? I know swaintech, but do they have multiple shops or do you have to send them in? How much for your pistons, if you don't mind me askin?

IIRC I paid around $500

I had to ship them to SwainTech in Scottsville, NY to have them done

I had the Gold Coat on the Dome and PC9 on the skirts done...
