CDR What do you think?

Why not use a PCV from the oil filler tube to the intake elbow? Or even a line from the oil filler to an exhaust evacuation valve mounted in the downpipe right after the turbo? You think this would work simular to the CDR?

The CDR is just a large PCV valve. It works the same way, just that the diesel engine produces vacuum opposite that of a gas engine. The CDR valve is calibrated to work with the vacuum generated by our engines. The turbo application CDR is different than the NA one.

I suppose you can find a large PCV valve that has maximum restriction at the vacuum generated by the 6.5 when at 12psi boost (calibrated for a gasser that creates that much vacuum at idle). And that might be a lot cheaper than a CDR can, but ultimately more restriction when there is little vacuum at idle.
 
I've noticed on my 6.2 that has the CDR tube attached to the oil fill that i don't get liquid oil in the intake, just vapors. My 6.5 has liquid oil in the intake, while it's not much it's still present. I'm curious what caused them to change the location of the CDR pickup location from the oil fill to the valve cover? Common sense would say that the oil would be flung around more in the valve cover as it's getting tossed around by the pushrods and rocker arms.
 
Nice! This is a great idea! I'm a jackass, and my engine routinely sees 3600.. and im sure it gets a nice gulp of oil in the CDR when the valve covers are full of lucas OS + Ursa 15w40, when the temp guage is reading about 150.
 
Whats funny is I guess that back in the 60s they determined that about half the hydrocarbon emissions produced by vehicles were from the draft tube, this blowby venting into the atmosphere. So the PCV system became widely popular at that time in CA, due to the growing number of vehicles in the state. Then the rest of the country adopted it, because the draft tube apparantly also left oil streaks down the road, seeing that every vehicle had one.

You can. Just think catch can w/ an internal coalescing filter. Just need a similar filter surface for oil mist/vapor to coalesce on & drain down.

The Provent is a well designed product. Still, you can fabricate something similar for less than ~ $200+
 
on a related diesel note, my older brother once over filled the oil in my dads 8v71, and he had the draft tube routed back into the intake in the same manner as a cdr, well oil puked out the tube and into the intake and the thing boiled the rear tires off the truck spinning 10k rpm up the road until it ran outa oil....
 
I seem to have no problems with the cdr setup. A tad of oily film inside the intake? Not hurting anyone. Burning oil vapors is just more mpg.
 
The main reason I dont like the oil in the intake is it gets in the accessory hoses, boost gauge, pressure switches, water nozzles. Although burning the fumes, yes that is desirable, and leaving oil in the crankcase is nice.

dont forget the crust build up on the valves ,that over time breaks loose and starts demanding for room in the combustion chamber that aint there.
 
Bison, do you have yours plumbed to drain coalesced oil back into the sump automatically? Or just empty a drain valve on occasion?

No drain valve,the drain back tube enters the pan about an inch above the pan bottom,wel below the lowest oil level. The oil level in the pan acts as the drain valve.

I wonder if thats what happened to my valve?!? I still have the valve, something took a small corner off of it. Piston slapped it about 10 times and off it went to the races....
