Bypass oil filter kit for 96-2000 trucks

For one of my vehicles I made a bracket out of aluminum and mouted it to the drivers side battery box. On a couple of vehicles I mounted the Bypass filter horizontally on the drivers side fender right behind the battery

Mine is horizontal on the frame behind the Tcase crossmember.

The only problem I can see with horizontal mounting, especially anywhere but on the frame rail, is all that nice black, sooty oil that runs out when you change the filter.

So Burning Oil, in reference to your Amsoil 2 micron filter, what is the recommended filter change interval in miles?

Just a newbie question.. What problem are we solving with this Oil bypass system???

Its better engine protection, it filters the abrasive fine contaminates (an abrasive slurry). IIRC Particles around 7 microns do the most damage in the long run. Full flow filters allow alot of the fine stuff through.
You can also increase the oil change interval.

Extended Drain Intervals
• Improved Oil Cooling
• Increased Filtration Capacity and Life
• Increased Fluid System Capacity
• Efficient Small Particle and Soot Removal
• Significantly Extended Engine Life
• Equipment Constantly Runs on Clean Oil
• Remove Particles Less Than One Micron

When used in conjunction with AMSOIL motor oil and an EaO or Donaldson Endurance filter, EaBP Filters should be changed every other full flow filter change up to 60,000 miles. When used with other brands of motor oil or full flow filters, the EaBP filter should be changed every other full flow filter change. AMSOIL recommends using oil analysis when extending oil drain intervals.

Leroy, where does one get the analysis done? I know where I can do this with a semi, which is in the $18.00 range, but don't know if that would step on toes.

Wherever you like to do business is fine. $18 is a good price.

Also forgot to mention. The filter base is a 4 port so sampling valve for OA could be installed in one of the ports.

I really have no idea as far as a compairson. The fuge costs more up front, but no filters to replace. What comes out of my Fuge is a slurry type looking mess, some pics I've seen shows a "cake" looking stuff coming out (that must be some rally dirty oil to get a cake out of it).
As far as the effectiveness beween the two I can only restate the manufactures claims at this point.

Do you plan on keeping both on it for now? If so it would make a nice comparison to see which is catching more. I want to put a bypass filter on mine, but don't have much room for one under the hood. About my only option would be to moun t it inside the frame rail underneath.

Look for truck stops with Speedco either on the lot or nearby. My last change looked a.little funky, so ill see what needs to be done (sample size, etc...)

Im only going to run the centrifuge on that truck, on the Isuzu/Suburban I will run the Amsoil element. Im sure the Dmax has an OPS to tap into or some other port. If you meassure the needed hoses I can get a price for you.

Speedco is an oil analyizer?

I don't know how extensive they get, but they do give the TBN iirc (total base number?) I think different ppm of iron, copper etc...

Speedco is kinda like jiffy lube for semi's. I just can't justify $350 for a 9 gal oil change, when I can buy the oil and filters for $160 and do it myself.

Yeah, with that Duramax and Allison under it, I'd venture you don't have much room under the hood of that Suburban!

Been a fan of oil analysis since the AOAP (Army Oil Analysis Program) came on-line in the mid '80's. I figure with the bypass filter, synthetic oil and oil analysis, I can go one helluva long interval before changes are necessary, 60K mi is on the low side when 18 wheelers are going over 100K running bypass filters and synthetic oil. Just the occasional topping off of the crankcase, since I burn/leak less than a pint/4,000miles right now (time for a CDR cleaning and/or replacement!).
