Brutus Turbo and Cooling upgrade

[/COLOR]

Then you have not seen an ATT because it is a Mitsubishi copy with some slight changes. This was all well documented in quite a few threads here. BIG difference between Mitsubishi design wheels, housings and the way they do there wheel designs.

I guess you sell something other than the att for 6.5's then? The one I saw had complete bearing failure with less than 500 miles on. I think you'll recall who's that one is (note my location, PA). Please tell me what I saw wasn't a att now?

And can you explain to me why the compressor wheel, center section, and turbine wheel have holset numbers on them?

The wheels arent really the same, even if modeled similar to other Holset wheels. Not like the HX40WII is Holset either. The compressor wheel has similar characteristics, but they arent the same, and since I have a 10-blade turbine in the HX40, thats significantly different. Housing designs play a huge role in how the act and perform and they have significant differences, even if you consider that external. There are different wheel options for both compressor and turbine on the HX40WII. You are looking at completely different stages or class of turbos as one might refer to it.

well I got the PRD HX35 on Brutus.....The Turbo is a very nice piece the first thing I noticed was when you reach in and spin it, it just keeps spinning very free and no play at all, seat of the pants feels real close to the HX40II so far so good

Sounds like some good bearings, do you know what kind they use? Journal or better cartridge ball bearings? That would be a good selling point for performance and reliability, but PDR doesnt mention it.

If it has ball bearings and depending on the turbine wheel size (assuming 70/60mm 12-blade) I would probably get a 16cm^2 gated exhaust housing for it.

How come the turbine shaft and compressor wheel had the same identical part numbers on them as a low hp 8.3 cummins h1e turbo?? On the 8.3 it had a 22cm nongated exhaust housing, and a non-mwe compressor housing.

I dont know or care because the H1E is not the same as an HX40, the HX40WII is very different than an ATT, period. This is not the thread or forum to discuss that anyway.

H1e is an old school hx40. The hx40 has better flow rates, and more efficient wheel designs. An easy way to differentiate the two is the compressor housing. H1e has v-band clamp style holding the center section to the compressor housing.

Since you mentioned it, where is the forum and thread to discuss this?

Alright CumminsFever, simmer down. I am with Buddy on this one. Sorry but I can't explain the numbers and I really don't care. The point is the ATT is a great turbo and along side it there seems to be great feedback about the HX40II. We should be thankful there are such people out there to allow the aftermarket of 6.5L's to open up. Actually what I am curious on is the cooling system. I did put an all aluminum radiator in mine that was kinda of pricey, but it cools just fine with my stock water pump, but I was thinking about going to the high flow water pump. Would it increase cooling if I just went with the single 195 stat with the high flow water pump? What system are you running RaceDay?

OK lets just lay things out in the open so there are no innuendos here. The person who contacted me regarding the "complete" bearing failure as you state is member name Heller of which I shipped him a turbo without being paid by my vendor. When he contacted me on 05/07/2012 in the afternoon and said his bearings failed on the ATT after 500 miles as you say. I asked him to check oil pressure to the turbo because his previous (GM turbo) turbo also failed in the same manner. I have the turbo and have not had a chance to look at it because I just received it last night 05/10/2012 after 17:00. Now if the turbo has been apart and disassembled as far as the compressor wheel and shaft, the warranty will be voided I will pay his shipping back and forth but that will be the extent of the warranty. other than that if it is a problem with manufacturing then I will cover it without a problem.

So lets start over, the turbo is a Mitsubishi design based off of a TDo7 design. NOW if you would like to add anything,I am not hiding anything from anyone. I have had only one turbo fail from oil failure and it was because of a bad oil feed line confirmed by the purchaser.

I will be contacting Mr Heller regarding this exchange. I hope I have cleared up any innuendos. MY reputation stands and if there is some discussion you would like to continue my phone number is available. Respectfully

Slim- I only brought that to mention because you called out my integrity as to seeing an actual att turbo. I was there and saw heller's oil pressure reading, along with that we did a volume check. Plenty of oil. When I saw it was a holset center section, I was suspicious of an oil problem as well. But it has pressure and volume. So we assume faulty bearings?
Your reputation stands as it always was.

I have the dual Thermostats and the HO water pump, The radiator I got was a Delphi what do you have? was it custom built? I never had a overheating problem, just wanted to make everything right

Seems I might have kicked off a Hi-jack situation with my comments about the ATT and the HX40II comparison.....Maybe a Mod can split the Thread, as not to send Bruce's "Cooling and Turbo Upgrade" thread spinning out of control.

Bruce, I apologize for sending your thread off the rails, this was not my intention......I was just interested in a comparison between the 40II and the ATT.

Haha threads seem to get a life of their own, I remember back in grade school a teacher showed how rumors start and wispered something into a classmates ear, and he into the next by the time it got back to the teacher it had nothing to do with the original

That's funny, I remember that from grade school also!:yup:.....Anyway back to our, "Regular Scheduled Program" :bigok:

I am not sure the exact brand. I would have to check but the winds howling about 60mph outside so I am almost confined inside :) and it wasn't custom built or anything. I just wouldn't mind having the added security from a cooling system upgrade

I remember those days. Especially living on the Southfork just out of town before they raised the dam and constructed the dikes. The dust was looked like a Biblical plague.

I will try to remember to check it tonight. I start work with the Forest Service today so it is kind of a hectic morning.
