Broken Starter support bolt

So the rear support bracket is missing off my Dually. well good luck finding one. They are backordered with no date of arrival. My dealer has a great parts guy who put it on some sort of special thing where they scour dealerships for one and he found me one but they are getting harder to find then an honest politician. So I'm all happy to install it and make all right in the workld again. DOHH!! The bolt is broken off in the block where the bracket should bolt to. That sucker is rusted and broken off in there in a way that is not coming out unless I pull the motor and get it into a position to drill and retap(near impossible in the truck). I don't know if this has every been tried before but I extended the bracket so it would bolt to the hole next to the one where it normally goes. Wasn't hard and that hole uses a bigger bolt. I think it will be strong enough. What do you guys think ?
the only other way I could see would be to try and drill it with a Right angle drill but I don't even think that would be so easy given it's location.

Mine is broken off if my 94. Im lazy, put 2 brand new starter bolts in and go. Ifd they do brake, you can have someone hold the starter back up there and it will start. Had to do that a couple times on 6.2's at work.

the hole I used is slightly lower than the original one and about 1 inch to the right facing the block. I made the extension out of 1/4 inch plate and the bolt in the new hole is bigger(M10 I think) so it should be fine. Hey better than nothing right ?

):h Well if it works for you then we will know it is a good fix. If I read a post about "the starter fell off" ... You are the best person on here to test stuff... :D

Anything to hold the long lever that is the starter should work.

You make me afraid to change starters on my restoration project now.
 
The bolt can be drilled if the motor is out of the truck easily. Just in a bad spot in truck. Everything sucks to work on up here in the Rust belt. If this works I claim the patent....:D

Actually I had a 6.2 where the ear broke off. I put the one good bolt back in and the rear support. Got the starter in the right spot and welded the nose of the starter to the tranny cover. It worked fine. Of course changing a starter became a bit more involved but it beat changing a motor.
 
Yeah, I figure what have I got to lose. Better than nothing. does anyone know if the starter bolts should have washers ? Unfortunatley I seem to kepp buying trucks that have been butchered.

IF they do break they can also break the corner off of your block!!! I.E. JUNK ENGINE.

Frequently, my field re-engineering worked better than OEM parts / spec.s.
File the patent application, stamp them all with "PATENT PENDING", and put 'em on every 6.5 forum and fleabay.

The work bench is just camoflage. Keeps the enemy from stealing the secrets.;)
Besides, if he organised it, he'd never find anything, and couldn't reach it when needed.
