Diesels have trouble keeping the alternators on the engine. This failure was during other repairs and didn't strand me. Yes, I did have to drill the hole bigger on the end that broke.

And that is why I didn't flip my bracket around but instead made a flat bracket to go there out of 1" wide 1/4" plate.

Did you have to shim the CS-144 forward on the bottom mount at all?

One of our vendors is attempting to fill this exact market demand for a worthy part...

Ferm,

I've been wondering why others weren't doing what you did. This mod is on my list of to do mods but I haven't had any trouble out of my old alternator yet. I haven't actually seen this mod in person yet. Is you bracket completely straight?

Here's a pic of my upper bracket. I used a chunk of 1/8th by 1" strap that I had laying around. It's straight, no bends or spacers between the bracket and where it bolts to the alt or the belt tensioner on my 94. Something thicker would be better, but I've had no problems.

In this shot you are seeing only the 1/8th" edge of the bracket.

Don,

Looks like you left the old bracket on there for a spacer.

WarWagon,

I just noticed the red brace on the back of the alternator. Do you have any better pictures of that, and what did you use?

Don,

Looks like you left the old bracket on there for a spacer.

In that pic it's not super clear, so I went out to my pickup to double check. What you are seeing is the serpentine bracket bolted to the front of the motor that holds the serpentine belt tensioner. So my homemade bracket and the tensioner are sandwiching the serpentine bracket. My bracket is in the place where the stock bracket for the CS-130 would have been.

Mine was just a straight piece of steal on top, but I also made a rear support bracket for mine to help keep it from popping under load.
