I am very excited to announce another first realease from www.pmdcable.com of what we are calling the "METRUM ROD FUEL SENDING UNIT" or (MRFSU). It is a giant improvement over the factory fuel sending unit. We have been working on this for over a year and are ready for market now.
FYI: METRUM is the latin word for MEASSURE.
We have been using the MRFSU in three trucks, two of them for over a year and have not experience a single problem. With the MRFSU the gauge reads more linear across the range of the gauge. The stock FSU (on 34 gal tanks) reads about 1/2 at 300 miles and then empty within 125 more miles.
The MRFSU has a 100% stainless steel housing, the electronics are completely sealed off from the fuel, it is basicaly a plug and play (Some minor modification needed on fuel pick up), plugs into factory harness. It installs inplace of the stock wire pass through on your original fuel pick up.
The original FSU is a know problem on our trucks and are prone to fail every couple years. The cost for an original style FSU range from $80 -$150.
If your gauge bounces, pegs way past full or just does not work anymore then the likely problem is the FSU.
Our new MRFSU is a much better alternative. Lifetime transferable warranty and we are offering it for a limited time for $109.99 + shipping via usps priority mail.
Below are the instructions and pictures of the MRFSU.

Forgot to say. If you want one pm/email me for an invoice. This is until I get it on my web site anyway. I need to get this and a few others up.
Thanks
Leroy

The pics didn't come through on my computer? Sounds like a great product. I've always hated how it took forever to use the first 1/2 tank and no time to use the 2nd half. Another problem here in the rust belt is the fuel lines rusting off of the sender. Thanks Leroy.I know where to get replacements now.

so basically, one retains the assembly, but installs a much more accurate sending unit for the fuel level?

do you know if this would work for a chassis cab with the 22 gallon front or 18 gallon rear (96-00) or the single front or single rear on 95 and earlier? What about suburbans?

Also, on the vent line, could one actually cut it off flush? wouldnt this allow for more complete filling?

Finally, do you think there is a market in buying new ones and then modifying them with the upgraded sending unit, as members in the rust belt surely have issues. or how hard would it be to make a whole new drop in assembly that, judging by your usual craftsmanship, would make the OEM type unit look like a kids toy?

If you dont have acess to a chassis cab, I guess I need to do research myself when I switch to a flatbed on my 99, aka pull sending units, and have the bed off the 96 and pull and compare, as I would sure love to put this in the chassis cab, as the balance module relies on the proper signals to determine when to pump from the rear, and when to recognize when the rear is empty.

I think I need one regardless. only accurate guages are my 2 91s. all other GMs in our fleet are not too accurate.

Not sure what the problem is. Can everyone else see the instructions w/pictures?

1. Yes you retain your original FSU and install our Metrum rod on it.
2. I do know these will work on the short bed truck with the 24 gal tank, the Suburbans with 42 gal tanks and the long bed fleet side trucks w/34 gal tank.
I would ask you to cross reference the part # from dealer or parts store if you need the same FSU as the trucks i listed above then my MRFSU would work. I will also measure the length of the sender, if that is the same then it will work. (will do that later)
3. Not sure about more complete filling when cuting vent tube (maybe?) I do know I cut mine instead of flattening it and it has worked great.
4. We thought about offering a completed unit, but we would have to buy a new one to modify and that brings the price up to double, (dont think we would sell many).
We also thought about good used cores, but then have the whole headache of keeping track of them..............bla bla..........
This seems to be the best option. For me the whole modifcation of the FSU takes maybe 10 minutes. All you really are doing it removing the tabs on the electrical pass-thru and mounting the MRFSU in that hole.
If a member here would like to send me there FSU I can do the mod for them (free) and send a completed unit back.
Also, if anyone has an old, but physically in good condition FSU they want to send me to help other members I could keep those and offer them as I get them.

I can see the pictures!

My main problem with my fuel gauge is that on full it goes about 1/2 inch past the full mark when I top of the tank.

This is a great idea, Thanks for all the hard work you do for us lonely 6.5TD gear heads.

Have looked into it a bit, but the relay mod is cheap and seems to fix them.

That may be the better opportunity for ya to consider, an all inclusive kit that includes the correct relay & simple wiring directions with connectors for the OBD1...at a reasonable cost that allows you to make a profit without it being outrageous.

Just food for thought & congratulations on the new addition to yr 6.5 collection of parts!

Just FYI, Kennedy Diesel have those relay mod for OPS/LP for a long time. I am not sure if Leroy wants to compete with him, it is up to Leroy.

Leroy, congrats on the addition of excellent part for 6.5 family. It is a real niche market at this point in time.

Not at this time.

If and when it would be a self contained heavy duty unit that would mount on the end of my OPS ext hoses

The pics didn't come through on my computer?

Worked OK for me. Opens as a PDF file. Perhaps right clicking the picture and selecting "Save target As" then pick a spot on your hard drive and save it there. Then open it with Acrobat Reader.

As for the product, my fuel gauge is practically hypnotizing me of late with the way it wobbles back and forth after it comes off of full. Guess I'll be sending some $$ Leroy's way. I've had a new sock sitting on my shelf for some time now...glad there's a few of you out there that are looking out for the rest of us.

Just meassured, and the distance from the underside of FSU to the opposite end of MRFSU is 12 3/4". So, you can meassure yours or find out if the part #s are the same on the trucks listed.
Short bed trucks with the 24 gal tank,
Suburbans with 42 gal tanks
Long bed fleet side trucks w/34 gal tank.
If yes then MRFSU will work on yours.

Pretty neat. GM FSU's have sucked as long as I can remember but was pointed out the problem with us guys in the rustbelt is that we generally have to remove the FSU because the pipes rotted at the bend. The thing I like about this idea is that the aftermarket FUS's from the Autoparts stores are crap and ythe clip that retains the float arm to the sender pops and the float with arm falls into the tank. this happended to me 2 days afyter installing. I was pissed. I had to use a tiny zip tie to fix it. M point to this story is if you could somehow get the FSU's manufactured with your FSU I think you would have a market way beyond the 6.5TD crowd. JMHO.

We know there are other applications, just dont know which ones. Thinking Ford Dodge and Dmax FSU must be simular. I have never seen them, but yea the market could be big. Even some cars could use one.

So, the Metrum replaces the original floating design? Then there is no mechanical moving parts other than that black piece.
