Brake Pad Brand

Do we have any brake experts here?

I just sprung for rear pads today, I bought AC-Delco cause nothing else that I could find comes close in quality, any other brand i've tried were horrible, short life span, stopping power is below average, at best and made noise/squealed like crazy.......Limited choices because it's not a popular size/item/whatever, they're pretty big because everyone who see's them says..."Damn, those are big pads" GM part# 19151576, also they list for $298.00 a pair, even with my discount they cost me $200.00, so I go for 4 bucks every time I do pads!...........Can anyone suggest something else? I'd like to try ceramic or some other kind of longer lasting material.

Are the "Hawk" brand comprable to OEM?

Hawks are better than OE, they last longer, work better and less dust. I put a set on my Jimmy, woah! They are cheaper than GM linings too. I don't know if this is the case anymore but AC Delco brake pads used to be off brand Raybesto's, :mad2: So still with real GM pads or the ones mentioned above.

I use Ake Bono ceramics on my turbo Caravan, can stop from 105 mph in a heartbeat,

Whatever you buy, get the ceramic version. It is supposed to be the newest and better with less dust and better stopping power.

forget the name but auto zone carrys them carbon fiber metallic. never will over heat ive tried! great long life no dust better than ceramics and they give you a firm pedal and stop amazing even when towing

I havent had any issues with them, you get what you pay for, thats why i get the premiums. I have them on my mustang too.

All the autozone are branded as Duralast, there are 3 levels, Regular, Gold (SemiMet) and Gold C-max (Ceramic). The lowest one is called Valuecraft, probably the one you want to stay clear. I have just bought the Gold C-max but I have not put it on yet. Probably will get in when the temp a little cooler since I don't really need it yet. It also have a lifetime warranty which from what I hear, when it is worn just bring it there and they will replace it.

Glad to hear somebody have good experience with it.

HAHAH, yeah i heard the same thing about the warranty!! I have a freind that used to work there, and he bought them and when he needed new ones just bring them in and they will give you new ones. So thats why i bought them. I never have to pay for front pads again!! I did a complete brake job on both my cars rotors and all except for calipers. So far on the stang i have taken them to Watkins Glenn race track and raced a few laps, and they have been to the drag strip. Let me just say i wasnt going easy on her at the Glenn, and they still stop great and true. Both sets i have are the semi metallic, i heard thye ceramics ruin rotors easier... I like em...

The ceramic used to ruin rotors. The Japanese formulated a compound that does not do that anymore. IIRC, Akebono. Everybody is using it now. I have one in my Camry for 3 years now (probably Duralast Ceramic since my mechanic used AZ as supplier), it is still fine and still very thick not worn out yet for about 30k miles.

So whenever the one on my Burb run out, I will put in the AZ Duralast Gold C-max.

I helped a friend did the brake pad in their Accord 2 weeks ago, I bought one from OReilly, it is their brand Brakebest Select Ceramic. It seems to be very good. They like it. I would buy the expensive one but their budget was limited. With lifetime warranty, I figured, let's try it. They don't have the ceramic for our truck yet except for Wagner brand which I heard is good also.

I always get the cheapest ones they have. on my dually always towing ive got over 50k and they are still fine. in my experience the high dollar pads eat up rotors

Features & Benefits:

PFC at zone they are the best in my opinion i am very happy with them better than ceramic no dust or noise never over heat i cant say enough good here is the info on them The Carbon Metallic vehicle specific friction allows our brake pads to be quieter, stop quicker, and last longer than any other pad. Multi-layer Technology eliminates noise. Temperature resistent shims do not deteriorate with operating temperature. The patented powder coating reduces corrision and extends pad life. Carbon Metallic pads are TS 16949 and ISO 14001 certified.
