bracket needed

Well, nothing from any sources mentioned. Bernie, I did find one place that would let me add it to the cart, but when I would check out, it would come up as unavailable. I'll be willing to bet that will be the case for you. Though I hope for your sake not.

So I got busy tonight and this is what I came up with:dual alternator bracket 6.5.jpg

I printed what pictures I could find from the 'net, then using the known measurement of the alternator bolt spacing, I resized the pictures on the copy machine to where I had a workable template. It came out pretty close, I did have to slot a couple holes a little bit. It's painted, should be ready for install tomorrow. Hope to have it functional before the next snowfall which could be tomorrow night. Guess I need to get the belt and idler next.

That looks pretty close, but getting the spacers right (for belt alignment) will be critical to avoiding premature belt wear. Also, did you get the hose bracket? If not, what are your plans for supporting the upper radiator hose?

The cast bracket is the reference for belt alignment. There are spacers on the plate bracket to make up the gaps.

The spacers are about an 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch. A couple washers between the plate and alternator should work fine. There is a 1/4 inch thick nut for the idler pulley to space it out properly

fastjohnny, sorry I didn't get time to get the bracket off to measure it. There is a serpentine belt listing option for the longer belt, NAPA has it as the "Ambulance Option". Be careful of the belt length, if you got the idler position off, you may need a custom length. Make sure you have plenty of adjustment in the tensioner after the belt is installed.

No problem, John.

Bernie, as John mentioned above, the alternator position is determined by the existing rear bracket. The spacers just make up the difference between the new front bracket and the alternator. The hose bracket is NLA as well, it won't be a big deal to support.

I have the idler pulley ordered from gm, but as I'm in a hurry to get it done, I'm picking up the belt and idler this afternoon from Napa.

Well, I'm back to trying to get this setup done after a hectic spring that drained our budget (wife's dad passed somewhat suddenly) and after cooking a single 140amp alternator yesterday.
