Boost gauge working?

From the pics of your intake it looks like you have an s engine ie egr that might be your problem.

But I thought the F in my VIN - 1GCGK29F6TE100011 meant that I had an F engine, so I wouldn't have egr? I'm confused... Say egr is my problem...what's that mean exactly? What are the symptoms and solutions?

All I know is my 96 intake doesn't look like that. Maybe a donor motor? If it is and you don't have the other selenoids I would swap it for an F intake. I've read that a malfunctioning egr can cause back smoke. Check some of MGWs post she was the one I read it from.

what's your intake look like? Do you know where I can find an F intake?

Here's what my intake looks like. Also a pic of the bracket that used to be on my valve cover. And a pic of the one selenoid (wastegate) that I left plugged in.

Just saw what an EGR port looks like and it seems like I used to have one, but the previous owner deleted it. I'd really like to know what all was done to this truck, haha. If/since it was deleted...where do I go to check to see if the vacuum line that was supposed to be plugged is plugged? BTW - there is no SES or anything.

Ok...well, I'm thinking I may have an F intake formed in an S mold...because wouldn't I have a hole in the center of that oval for the EGR to have set? If that's the case, I just need to cut the webbing out of the F intake.

If there is nothing to worry about, then I plan on 1) changing my NV4500 fluid with synthetic and getting the gauge hook-up (http://www.geartechhd.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=5&pos=0 ) and the filter (http://quad4x4.com/NV4500%20Rebuild%20Kits.htm). After that, I plan on getting the mechanical wastegate from Heath, and then after that, I plan on getting the scangaugeII. (or should I get the scangaugeII before the mech. wastegate?)

forest,

FYI the NV4500 factory fluid is a synthetic oil also. If it was me I would and will go with amsoil.

Forest there is a pic of an opened up S (EGR) intake here http://myweb.cableone.net/tbogemirep/ from back in my first days when I dealt with such nuisances, long gone :D

What I see in your pic is one of the uppers that have the boss for EGR, but the casting was never opened up for EGR, for a while GM made 1 casting for intakes ones with EGR got finished thru for EGR, only way to know for sure is to remove the upper intake and look inside

Thanks Tim - and a side question - what protects the intercooloer in that report? I'm assuming you don't put the front skidplate back on...or do you?

Also - in the intake manifold - can the center piece get cut out as well...that is - if i can get a cutting wheel under it to cut it out? I'm just planning on cutting the webbing out, but thought I'd ask anyways.
