Not sure what I have here. And ideas? I think this is not the original motor. Found a heli coil in the crossover flange on the exhaust manifold. And some grounding that was just cut off like they were in a hurry while pulling the motor.

Well? What did you find? The money shots are the casting number in the valley under the intake manifold and the date code stamped in the flat space above the bell housing flange. You gotten that far yet
Well? What did you find? The money shots are the casting number in the valley under the intake manifold and the date code stamped in the flat space above the bell housing flange. You gotten that far yet?
 
It’s been slow. Still don’t have my motor out. It seems to rain every time I’m off. I did find another short block. It’s a 506 from 97. Nothing special I know but it appears crack free so I got it. Man told me it was magna fluxed so I trusted him. Block was honed and cleaned crank was polished and came with new bearings and a full gasket kit. New pistons rods and rings. I put the rings in the cylinders and the gap is in spec. Oh and the new cam bearings were installed by the same shop that honed it.

Gapless those rings.
At least the second groove ring.
