Block heater buzzing

Get a circulating heater, they can go in one of the heater core hoses, they aren't that much and will heat the whole block.

When I rebuilt my engines, I Put a regular block heater on each side. That way the whole block is heated.
That's my plan, replace the one that's on the drivers side and install another one on the passenger. unless I find a dependable circulation type for less $$. also been looking at having a battery tinder wired in too so that it keeps the batteries up in freezing weather.

The inline heaters that use heater hose is what is used in generators that run almost all the time. They cycle off when at temp but restart as soon as it falls a bit. Most don’t have a pump, some have a check valve some do not and as the water heats it creates flow. They are placed in a location which moves the freshly heated water into the block right away, on our engines the only place I see that is the one that goes from the crossover down to the waterpump.
and with the waterpump not spinning, into the driver side I think is where all that is going.
Plumbing it in there will be interesting at best. Getting one that does have a pump would be more expensive but obviously work better.

If adding secondary into the block- it only makes sense to spend the hummer extra money on the 1000 watt units instead of the factory 600. But if you are running them and a battery tender- you are pulling a lot of power so plan accordingly.
If you aren’t sure what you have what to get- ask.

I was figuring on staying with the 600 watt and using one on each side of the block since it really doesn't get that cold here in south Texas but only about a month out of the year. the battery tinder would only be maybe a 2 or 4 amp charger unless I go with something that has the capability of pushing 10 amps and be automatic.

for the idea I had with camping and fishing. I had the thought of using an old style computer UPS battery backup where it's batteries would be the truck batteries. when plugged in it would charge the truck and also have a built in inverter I could turn on or off for things one might use on a camping trip. those normally have a 400 watt inverter built in and if I were to park overnight in a park or some fishing piers, they have power available. for me that would be a micro rv setup :)

the inverter side would only be active if I needed to use it on the road or have something powered while driving, but when plugged in, it would be a simple surge power strip for something like a coffee pot lol

Guess I put on my jacket and go out and see if that block heater is making noise. 😹😹😹
Yep. I need to plug her truck in. I installed an outside outlet to plug the vehicles into. Right now, the snow is about waist deep for about 20 foot to get to it, to plug stuff in.

We have a cord plugged into the Jeep, but didn't plug it into the outlet, because we weren't going to use it for a day or 2.

Now I'm wishing I had run the outlet through a switch so we could plug everything in and turn it on and off from inside the house.

My daughter's outside recepticles are on a switch in her closet. Right next to the closet light switch. Her outside recepticles would work sometimes and sometimes not. I happened to be over on a day when they quit working. It took me about 45 minutes to find the switch in her closet.

I would look into a Webasto or something similat before that. I just sold a Webasto that never got installed, last Fall or summer.

are those the mini diesel hot air heaters? I am wanting to try one out. have seen them on amazon and ebay for a decent price. perfect for the no power situation in the house or for camping :)

Diesel block heater. You can get a remote start for them.
I had webasto tsl17
WOW I just looked up on google what that was! diesel powered block heater that would also provide hot water and heat for a fan radiator heater on boats! this would be an awesome thing on an rv for it being close to self sufficient off grid! I would expect it to come with a hefty price tag though.

Webasto heaters are huge in the overland community more for interior heating via use of diesel or gasoline for RTT's and slide ins.

Price wasn't terrible.

All my outside GFI recepticles are on dedicated breakers, I could turn them on or off with the breaker. Sometimes I do but usually use a timer.

There is those smart controllers. Plug it in then plug in whatever you want to it. Then smart phone activates it. Basically it is a remote control relay. I hate ‘smart’ stuff but that is a cool option.
I hate smart anything. LOL. I have trouble even answering my flancy new smart phone. I'm missing my old flipper

Really missing the old Nextels.

Might see if mynwife wants it when she upgrades.
