I went a little over 21 MPG on my vacation trip last week. The only thing I could say is turn the tuner up and keep your foot off the pedal. Usually most people get the best mileage from the tuners on the highest setting.

I am running EFI live, so maybe that helps some, I don't know honestly.

I really appreciate the advice.I am somewhat timmid about level 3 ,but I will give it a try.it will be very hard to keep my foot of the throttle.lol love the extra torque.where can I research about efi live?

I have the 2005 LT 2500HD those come standard with 3.73 gears and the 3500 came with 4.10 standard from the factory. If you have the 4.10 gears might make the difference. I have just put on a bed caver and it made a difference of about 1.5 mpg. My mileage fluctuates anywhere from 18.5 city up to 23.5 hwy depending on wind, running air, and towing. I pull a Casita TT and worst is 17+ and best is 19.2 trailer weight approximately 3000 lbs.

I have the Edge with Attitude, K&N cold air mod., 4" cat back, and the mouth piece to be installed.

Hope this helps. Oh yes Hwy speeds REALLY make a difference.

ALL DURAMAX's came with 3.73 gears since 01, so that is out of the question. Also only hand calculate your milage as the DIC is a BIG FAT LIAR in almost every DURAMAX with a tuner(EFI excluded as you can calibrate it). I'm still trying to figure out how some are getting these huge milage numbers. My BURB is geared for highway milage and tuned for it, yet I've only hit 23-24 a few times with it.

Beg to differ but when I bought mine new from dealer the 3/4 ton 2500HD had 3.73's and the 1 ton 3500 HD had 4.10's this was in '05. I have found that the key to better milage is driving habits. When I am running 58-62 is the best for me. When I get in a hurry [running 80+] I get about 16. Also once I got 29 mpg but had a 30-35 mph tail wind so I never count that as on my way back with the same 30 mph head wind i got 13. You are right about the DIC being wrong all the time. Never has been correct when calculating my mileage.

Totally stock truck except the BFG ATs. Hand calculated every tank of fuel ever put in it. Best ever was 21.03 babying it and drafting every semi I could. If I get 17 winter and 19 summer, I did REAL good.

8.1L and 6.0L's came with 4.10 gears in the 3500, DMAX's came with 3.73's. I was selling these trucks in 05-06 and lost many sales because people were dead set on having 4.10's for towing with a diesel. The guide would list 4.10's, but try ordering one that way. I know 100% certain that my 01 that I parted out had 3.73's in it, and it was a 3500 dually.

WOW sounds like a lot of false advertising to me because the window stickers I saw in '05 all said that there were 4.10's in the 3500 and 3.73's in the 2500. When I ask about the 3.73's in the 3500 my friend that owned the dealership said that they came from factory that way and that he would have to special order one if I wanted it that way. At that time it would have been a 3 to 6 month wait as the '05 Duramax was in very short supply in in late '04 at least it was that way in Texas. Had to dealer transfer the one I wanted from over 600 miles away in Weatherford, Tx.

The window sticker said 4.10's because that was what would come with the 6.0L which was the base engine. The DURAMAX/ALLION package when added over rided the standard features and it came with 3.73's.

That's crazy. They never towed with a Duramax before then. You should have hooked up a trailer there at the dealer for a test drive.):h

Try explaining to a 70+ year old man that what he always new about diesels needing 4.10's to tow is false. 4.10's was true back when 200HP was big HP from a diesel, but 365HP changes things a bit. I know I tow with 3.42's and have no power problems.

As far as towing is concerned the difference between 3.73 and 4.10 is not worth talking about. The mileage around town is though. On the highway not much difference either. I pull a 16,000 lb 5th and have topped Raton pass at 70+ mph. from the Colorado side. I have 3.73's in my 2500 HD Not bragging just did it to see if it would. [not stock either]. I am 70+ years old and still street race as well as strip race a 10 sec. 96 lt4 Corvette. But don't tow anything with it LOL It has 3.92's one less shift in the 1/4 than with 4.10's Don't race my truck though just pull my 5th wheel.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes an OLD hot rodder but still having fun. A shame about the "disaster" at the barrett jackson auction yesterday. I would have just sat down and cried if I was a buyer OR seller. Hope there wasn't to much damage.
