Best price on bilsteins for GMT400?

Yep, Bilstein is a German company. Just like Bosch, etc. ;)

Well ya.. But the reason for asking is that in todays global world we never know until we research a little..

Bosch? Go buy a pair of ICON (Oooo, aaaah) wipers... Where are they made? China. And what does the rubber do? ..Goes to shit.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Don't misunderstand ... Nick just decided he wasn't getting enough business here and that's probably because his prices weren't any better than others. Nothing wrong with him. His tech knowledge is well respected. We don't have a suspension vendor so go with whoever you like. If it were me, I'd google search around and see what comes up. If TD checks in it would help. He's got pretty good rear suspension savy.

thanks for the clarification. Didnt mean to hate on him too bad, just wanted to try and support a current sponsor, but if we dont have a suspension sponsor I will shop around. Kennedy with shipping is around 300 for a set. I assume Kennedy sells the HD ones and will only order the comfort ones on request.

in the middle of some late night searching, shockwarehouse on ebay has a set for 265.32 with free shipping

summit racing will sell a set for 267.88 with free standard shipping, or I can bump it up to 2nd day air for 15 bucks, next day for 25.

tire rack quoted 236, but the site wouldnt load a shipping quote, so due to site suckiness,no sale for them. :)

I am awaiting a response from the e-bay guys to see what shipping options they have. I will check, if the ebay purchase is ebay bucks qualifyable, I will likely go that way.

I ended up going with summit, ebay guys would not respond today.

unfortunately i ordered a little late, about half hour ago. next day air is second day air after 7 pm EST. oh well, with next day air, still cheaper than 300 bucks.

I may still need to head out on saturday, so the sooner the better, that is why I did next day air.

Yeah I guess.. Time to put up or shut up huh? ;)

Ya know come to think of it, I had those Bilsteins on THREE trucks of mine.. First it was the '74, then for a short time they were on my '84 K10 Scottsdale (stock height) and this truck has the Quad front shock option (6 total on truck) and I ordered the pair to match the fronts (two different lenghts even on the 4 fronts) SSSooo, all in all 6 Bilsteins on a half ton 4wd.. You DO NOT EVER want FOUR Bilsteins on the front..... MAN!!..

Then from there I used 4 for the '65... The other 2 of 6 are laying around the shop somewhere.

Rancho 9000s on the '99 and '94 and like them. Don't know where they're made. About $300 for the set with the rebate.

well, the left rear shock was still pretty good, so I was kinda bummed. then we get the the right rear. that one was shot, shot, shot! happy about the purchase now.

PB blaster on the front stems, going to try and do them without pulling tires tomorrow if we dont go to a farm auction.

shocks say assembled in USA, and I am hoping by the price and lifetime warranty that the parts are german.

anyone know if it is OK to run with no boots on the front? they came without them.

got them installed day after last post, all went well. most of the harware isnt picky on torque, so I made sure to anti-seize the threads and torque them down good and tight so they wont come off, but the only ones i had doubts on were the front stems. how tight should they be? I got the rubber firm, and the rubber bushing's shoulder is definitely in the frame hole, but IDK how tight to take them. so I need to get the ribber to squish a little?

anyone know?

also, did I install them right? I used the bigger, heavier looking washer, and made it concave, then the rubber bushing without a shoulder, then the frame, then the bushing with the shoulder, then the smaller diameter, lighter colored, lighter weight washer, set concave as well, then the nut.

concave looking from the top, btw.

Yeah, a little squish is needed. I usually run 'em down until the bushing expands to the same diameter (or very close) as the concave specialty washers includud. Sway bar end links like this method too.

For the eye ends, the inner sleeve needs to be locked down to the vehicle bracket as one piece. If not the bolt will wear into your brackets and will rattle the entire time doing so.

IMO.. :)

Precisely

ok, got the bottom correct, will need to change the upper washer around. I tightened till they were nearly the same diameter, all seems well so far.

That's how you want them. The newer trucks purposely make the washers oversized whereas most shocks make them so that the washer should be the same size as the grommet when compressed.

ferm, you agree the washers need to have the concave face to the frame, correct?

It shouldnt hurt anything to got 1500 miles like this, should it? On the nevada trip right now, can correct them at the Idaho farm.
