Hey all,

I was wondering where I can find genuine bilstein shocks for a cheap price?

I am willing to spend a little bit more if it supports a vendor.

I need a set of the heavy duty ones for heavy loads and trailering.

it will be on a 2wd heavy 3/4 ton, the 1995 GMC C2500HD in the signature.

quick shipping that doesnt cost extra would be nice, I may need to head to nevada at week's end.

any info appreciated, thanks!

I bought mine from AUTOZONE. No charge for shipping, came in in 2 days, and they will price match the online places if you bring in a print out of there price normally. I don't buy much from AZ anymore(piss poor parts were costing me to much in warranty repairs), but for something like shocks I will use them.

I looked on RA, they don't have Bilstiens.
I have an account with AutoZone, they can order them AND! I should be able to set it up so you can pick them up at your local AutoZone to.
The Bilstiens seems to be more pricey at $66.99 ea Thats my cost and also what you will pay + any tax and possible shipping, each case is different.
I'll need the phone # of your local AutoZone to set it up.
Also, to be honest you might find them cheaper somewhere else??

You need to learn to type faster Leroy. :agreed: :hihi:

Actually, I was hoping you would check in on this.
I could have sworn I saw Bilstiens on RA but then I could have sworn I just turned 30 a few years ago too...

By mirthday is in a Dew fays. I'll be 39 again. :fest30:

if summit racing sells them, I will be damn close to the sparks nevada warehouse, but unfortunately the road between here and there is the reason why i want/need them. :)

by the way, for a gooseneck only truck, what would everyone recommend for suspension? This is a heavy 3/4 ton with NO overloads. Would Bilsteins and Roadmaster Active Suspension take care of my needs, or would sulastic shackles or airbags need to be added? I am easy to please, and all I am concerned about is keeping the truck from getting beat up by the roads. past that, its just extra money being spent.

Sulastic shackles are all about cab comfort, really. I'd give the Roadmaster a try, but air-bags might be more tuneable.

Talk to Nick at NorCal Truck (thought they were still a vendor?), they can help you figure out what you want, at least as far as shocks go.

Tinking aboot going with a set of Monroe Gas Magnums from RA @ $29 each.. Good? Bad? (are they even worth that price, or?) I really like Bilstein and all but they are comfortably 2.5X mo mo-ney.

I went with the Monroe Gas Magnums and am perfectly satisfied with them. But I don't spend any time to speak of on bad roads.
NorCal Nick quit being a vendor here long ago and that was partly because his prices were no longer any kind of bargain. Pretty sure he didn't care for the negative discussions about Cognito braces either. It was constructive but didn't agree with his opinion.

I have the roadmaster set up and like how it tightened up my rear end some. It will still sag / squat with a heavy load though. So for that reason next time I think I'll do air bags. You can adjust bags on the fly if you set them up accordingly. But air bags don't "strengthen the leaf" to tighten up the rear and reduce axle wrap. So its a trade off.

If money were no object I'd like a half leaf spring in front to help reduce axle wrap AND air bags.

if money were no object I would be turning a shop loose to make a scaled down pickup version of a 8 bag Kenworth or a 4 bag Peterbilt air trac, air leaf, or low air leaf (half the amount of bags on single axle trucks of course)

So nor cal truck is off the table, is Kennedy alright to deal with? I do hear he and Heath dont get along /agree, but that is their own issue.

Don't misunderstand ... Nick just decided he wasn't getting enough business here and that's probably because his prices weren't any better than others. Nothing wrong with him. His tech knowledge is well respected. We don't have a suspension vendor so go with whoever you like. If it were me, I'd google search around and see what comes up. If TD checks in it would help. He's got pretty good rear suspension savy.

I have the roadmasters and REALLY like them. I set them to the minimum setting and it raised the rear up about 1.5"s when empty, and helped some when loaded down. Stay away from GABRIELS as I got tired of replacing them every other year. I put quite a few sets on for customers, and they all have the same problems. Not much experience with MONROES, but the ones I have used were no better(just more money) than GABRIELS. KYB's make a good low cost shock, and can be bought from NAPA and CARQUEST. I have the BILSTEINS now, and they are NICE compared to the GABRIELS I had before.

We just spent ~$700 on Amazon for Firestone Ride rites and a HD compressor for a 2013 2500HD, should be similar price for any model of air bag I imagine. My built up deavers were ~$750. My Bilsein shocks from Norcal Nick on my 06 were $220-250 iirc and they were for a lifted truck.

Air bags are a great option, you can turn them down when not in use. Love my deavers but I would have gone with bags if my springs werent cracked. The bilstein shocks are nice but I dont have much to compare to.

True story, I have Bilsteins on a '65 C10 short-step.. :) They were left over from my '74 C10 project.. The shocks just will not die.

I like the '93 and all but it's not worthy of fine German steel..(gasp... IMO) (if Bils are still made there?)

Monroe gas mags are still USA, right? That counts for a little to me.

Mine said made in Germany. First instructions were in german too, english is second.

My 95 has monroe's with ~100K miles on them, they might be a bit on the thin side. The 93 still has OEM and i pulled them off and they still had some rebound left, was going to install some lightly used napas but the oem's still had more push at over 200K
