Not even a clue if this is best section for this question.

I need to deal with high heat, actually for some kitchen lighting parts. All experience welcome....

200 ish. Glass shrouds / metal around mr14 halogen mini bulbs. Currently orange- chrome will make it light faster, right? Lol

Yes I laughed OUT LOUD at my own cra*y joke.

Kind of my thought. That's why I asked here instead of Homeless Depot. I just don't know if one BRAND was better than another for real chrome look, or peeling from heat. Track lighting trying to make it look more 1950s diner.

Later I'll be making "milkshake lights" for the breakfast bar.

If you can find a dimmable LED, consider going that way. Bonus is that you do not have to worry about the heat. 3K color makes a very nice replacement for filament bulbs. If you want a pure white, go with 5K. Do *NOT* go with 6K as it gives a blue-ish alien texture and women commonly hate it.

So far the only issue I have had with dimmable 120v LED bulbs is that they need a compatible dimmer; if the dimmer is not LED compatible, they pulse at 60 Hz. Not sure whether dimmer compatibility is an issue in a low volt application as I have not tried this yet.

And, Yes, you can find incredibly bright 12v LED's that easily rival (or surpass) halogen filaments.

ill look into the led, thanks.

it seems lighting is my newest project list. My shop had 4 windows over 4' x 8' that were slats- open to weather. Just framed and closed them in and WOW I need shop lighting. craigslist, here I come.

x2 on LED's & the 3K color selection if you can find what fits the need at a cost that makes sense. I just swapped MR16 halogens to Feit Electric 3000K 8 Wt 500 lumen output. They're a pleasant (not too harsh) white, fiancé likes, & they don't show any pulsing used with the common household slider/dimmer wall switch. Not cheap ~ $15 on sale at Menards. Life expectancy says 22.8 years at 3 hr/day. If they make it to half that, I'll be happy I bought them.

If you can powder coat, you might like a color called "silver sparkle." Looks similar to freshly bead-blasted Al - with just a hint of metallic flake/sparkle. As a powder coat, it seals & doesn't oxidize so much - so stays looking good over time & heat exposure. I can find pics of parts done in this color if you're interested?

I think the wife will find something to replace these fixtures down the road. This is just to dress them up a bit so that she doesn't spend $300 as an intermediate fix until she finds "the right ones".

200 isn't "high heat". It's not even engine temperature, which is 500°F. I haven't tried any engine chrome, but this HH chrome is rated for 2,000°F, and it's very silvery:

The older blend was almost a match for real chrome. This came from a ~12-y.o. can labelled the same as the one above:

This is engine Aluminum cast-coat:
