I have an 87 one ton pick up and I just bought a blown up 6.2 with a banks sidewinder kit on it. I started pulling parts off and played with the turbo a little bit and oil started running out the compressor housing. Im questioning whether or not I want to use it but my room mate has an hx35 I could experiment with. Ive read a little bit and seen some people say the banks manifold has a t3 flange on it so an hx35 will bolt right up. I was wondering if anyone knew how the two compared as far as dimensions and if it would be possible to modify the hx35 to waste gate at around 5 psi. I pulled the injection pump off as well and was wondering what those are worth used.

How's the play in the turbo shaft? Can you make the turbine or compressor wheels touch their housings? If it's minimal side to side and no forward/backward movement I'd run it. You are bound to have a little oil in the compressor side due to the CDR, as its output is after the air filter and before the compressor inlet. If the CDR wasn't functioning properly that'll lead to excess oil in the compressor housing as well.

Don't condemn the turbo just yet. Banks wants close to $1500 for a replacement. They still have most of the parts for that kit. In fact they still sell it on their website, but it's not cheap.

Thats what I was thinking I could get. Is there a way to delete the CDR and put a breather in its place or would that be problematic?

If you don't mind oil leaks...The crankcase is designed to run neg pressure. The IP is worthless. 50$ tops for a core. If it was a 2831 then it would be gold.
