I had my truck up on the lift today doing my oil change. So i figured i would check the balancer to see if it was tight. I can grab the pulley and move it back and forth, its somewhat hard to do but it still moves and i would say about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch back and forth. Would this be too much play and need replaced or is this normal

if you're talking about the harmonic balancer I just replaced mine and it doesn't move a bit. I would replace it.

Is that hard to understand, the pulley is bolted to the balancer and theirs rubber between the two. Its the rubber in the balancer

I think your confused, the pulley is not the balancer, and it will have play.

I know that the pulley isnt the balancer, the pulley is bolted to the balancer, if i grab onto the pulley it moves back and forth, im pretty sure its moveing the rubber inside of the balancer thats why it has movement.

The pulley bolts to the solid inner hub of the balancer. The balancer has an elestomer that holds the inertia ring onto the balancer hub, but only the inertia ring(or outside of the balancer) is held by the balancers eleastomer. The pulley atatches to the solid inner hub of the balancer and has a bearing and elastomer of it's own that allows it to move.
