Auto Meter Gauges

The console came in my truck from the factory. They can be had at most wrecking yards for around $20 or less.

They came in Chevrolet/GMC trucks, suburbans, and tahoes.

The chunk of aluminum that actually holds the gauges came from dakota digital.

I agree, I want to know what is going on with my truck from all angles.

Guess i have yet another part to go looking for in the yards lol Already picked the local yard clean of the decent usable parts for my 1st gen Ram lol Time to dig in on the GMT400s lol

now that's scary!

Yesterday I got the new rear end cover. I have been wanting one of these on my truck for years.

I got a Mag-Hytec rear end cover. This thing is solid and well built.

Know here comes the fun part, getting it installed.

More pictures to follow!

Here is the pan installed.

The old pan came off easy. The old oil still looked good. I still put fresh oil in it.
The inside of the rear diff looked clean and I found zero metal shavings.
The hardest part of removing the old was the old gasket. It held on strong but. I got it all of in the end.

The new pan went on with no issues. I added exactly 5 quarts of 80W90 gear oil. Here is what I used.

I am very pleased with this pan. It is made well and with high quality.

mag-hytac is one of the best out there, looks good on your truck. with quality comes price. 5 quarts is nice. is that 2 more than stock?

I am not sure what factory stock level calls for. Here is what amsoil website states.

Differential, With 10.5 RingGear With D Rear..........5.5 pints
Differential, With 10.5 RingGear W/O Rear..........7.2 pints

2 pints = 1 quart

I could have put about another half a quart in the rear end.

Thanks!

x2 on the diff cover. Looks great!

Some of the aftermarket covers I have seen look like a cheap or "tacky" upgrade, but that looks really nice. When mine rots out ill probably do the same.

Thanks!

I plan on changing out the transmission fluid today and adding the temperature probe. :agreed:

I still need to get the rear diff probe fully installed also.

Today I got all the fluid drained out of the NV4500. To drain the fluid you remove the bottom bolt of the side PTO cover.

IMG_0628.jpg

I then pulled the remaining bolts and pulled off the PTO cover. I also removed the fill plug. It is located to the left of the PTO cover.

IMG_0629.jpg

I then drilled the hole and threaded it for the temperature probe. I used the flat spot below the fill port.

I then installed the temperature probe.

I then reinstalled the PTO cover, filled with oil, and installed the fill plug. It took almost 4 quarts of this stuff.

IMG_0630.jpg

I stumbled across this stuff while I was at the auto parts store.

I also got the hardest part of the wires ran today. You have to run them from here.

IMG_0639.jpg

Behind the headliner, between the roof and sub-roof.

IMG_0638.jpg

Behind the A-Pillar and new gauge pod.

IMG_0637.jpg

Down between the dash and window frame. Then out the grommet into the engine bay.

IMG_0636.jpg

Know the fun part of running the wires to both probes.

While I am at it I will run the wire for the mirror that needs to connect to the reverse lights.

I got the wires ran to the transmission and rear differential on Sunday and Monday. The local auto parts store ran out of black wire loom.
I had to go with blue. But at least I got it done.

It finally got above 70F today in my garage. I got two coats of primer and one coat of paint so far.
I will put 2 more coats of paint on it and I will be done.

I hope to get all this done by Saturday.
