I want to try barring the engine over on the 1994 K3500.

It was starting and running fine 2 years ago. Parked it. Just a hard click at the hit of the key.

New batteries. And it turned maybe 1/8 revolution, then nothing. Just the click or an occassional groan

I'm guessing starter.

But I'd like to make sure its rolling over before going further. It's easier than changing a starter or cables.

Is it a good idea to remove some glow plugs? If so how many? I was thinking of removing the easy 6.

Thanks

Yup, that would most likely prevent the enjun from starting. It might kick to an off compression stroke so dont have something stuck to tight.
Remove the fan belt too. Keep the fan from carving on a arm in case there would be a kick over.
Only reason for thaat to happen would be if a cylinder with the GP installed would have some fuel in it.

I would pull the glow plugs you can get to. try to bar it in reverse slowly. only thing I can possibly think of it maybe surface rust in the cylinder walls from condensation. if this is the case, youll need to pull all the glows out and add some pb blaster or trans fluid and work the crank slowly back n fourth till everything is free.

I would pull all the glow plugs therefore you could look around each glow plug hole for signs of moisture i.e. coolant. Additionally, I would hand turn it a few revolutions at the flexplate using the appropriate flexplate turning tool...one shouldn't turn it by the harmonic balancer bolt especially, when you know you're having a rotational issue.

At this point, I do not know If I have a rotational issue. It may just be a starter issue. Or possibly a starter cable issue. If I pull a few plugs and it doesn't want to move - then it will be a roatational issue. At which point I will be looking for options..

Make sure fuel is good condition, LP is operational.
Jump the LP while cranking.
Oh ya, make sure PMD is connected also.
All batteries terminal are good.

It will take a long crank for it to start so Batteries need to be in tip top shape.

Use the alternator nut to spin the engine over. The belt will slip before it hurts anything.

This has a bad ground or positive battery connection written all over it. Connection may be hot or shooting sparks out when attempting to crank the engine.

New means what exactly?! 🤔 Proven tested batteries because we are the Quality Control... Test the batteries just to be sure.

I never thought the alternator pulley would turn the engine over.

I had the new batteries load tested before l paid for them.

I haven't load tested the cable yet. Maybe next week. I doubt I look at it. This week.
