Antifreeze out the Exhaust

Could be either. Cracked head, headgasket. Could be cylinder wall. Pull the glows and pressure test it to find the bank and pull the head.

It's a truck that's for sale I'm looking at. Guy said that antifreeze started disappearing out the exhaust so he parked it, and then stole the rad for a different truck. 250000kms, full load, nice body and interior. Could probably get it for $1k. I have several good heads from another project. Not sure if it's worth it?

Well by reading your signature you are a mechanically inclined individual- bringing trucks back to life. This is good.

If the deal feels right, do it.

What year is the truck ? is it a 1997 or up, or under 1997 ?
1997 and up are enclined to be in trouble with #8 wall cylinder.
Other than that, could be just head gasket.
Problem is that we have not enough info to tell.
Could be from just blown headgasket to cracked block.

Was it suffering just from antifreeze at exhaust? no hydro lock ?

The price is good enough that its a good buy anyway.

First guess would be a blown head gasket on either #1 or #2

Only sure way is to rip it out and do an Autopsy on it.

97 Block will be first generation squirt block. Large outer main bolts and prone to cracking in the lower end (Big time) also #8 cylinders do crack on these too.

Still worth dragging home though.

New heads was what mine needed. Clearwater cylinder head was the answer. Worked great, great shipping time, bolt up was a breeze. (Says my mechanic, as I was intimidated by the process.)

Turns out there is also antifreeze in the oil. Truck has been sitting for several years and appears to be hydrolocked.
Could it still be just head gaskets?

The only way to know for sure at this time is to tear it apart.

Sitting for that length of time with coolant in the oil will have taken its toll.

No sense in worrying about the maybe this or that. Just rip it out and tear it down.

Best of luck

I don't think the guy ran it at all with coolant in the oil, it likely just drained in there from sitting. The bearings should have been sitting in oil so I'm hoping there OK.
