Another Towing Mirror Question

My truck being a 94 did not come with power mirrors. The mirrors that are on it now are off of a 97 Suburban and are power, but the pigtail is just hanging in the door. I know on the 94 and older interior style they made special door panels that were made a little different in the Burbs/Blazers & yukons where the door lock switches mount. Im not sure if its just a plastic piece i can clip on my door, or if the whole panel is different. Plus my interior is maroon, and for some reason its hard to find in my local yard. I want to keep the stock look with a stock switch and wire it up to operate a nice set of dodge power heated mirrors. Sorry for wandering off on a limb here.

Well, your options are to buy non power mirrors or find a power mirror truck in the yard and scrimmage out the wiring. You'll need the door casetes also (power window motors and tracks). The door switches would also have to be sourced.

Not hard, but a lot of parts.

There's a pretty good thread over on FSC about swapping it all in.

I have power door locks and windows in it, but i didnt know power mirrors were an option on the 94 and older models. I see some 94's (burbs/yukons & blazers) they put the 95 and up era mirrors on it, thats what i need to find for the power mirror switch wiring. But i think they are a little more rare. So its really not many parts, and i could prolly make a harness, its going to be getting the correct interior panel for the switch to mount in. I wish i had some pics to explain.. I will look for some after work today to try and show you.

Ok, I found some pictures quickly. Thanks to those that supplied these off of google and FSC. But, my truck looks like the blue panel, same style switches, like a normal Silverado. However I would like to change it to the burb style, with the window switches moved to the lower portion and a factory mirror switch. However if I get one out of a burb it will have two more switches than I need, but if I find it out of a two door blazer or Yukon it will be just perfect! I like the stock look

The other option is to pick up an s-10 type switch and wire them up:

Google will turn up a pretty simple wiring diagram that will work.

The switch just mounts under the driver or passenger side of your instrument pod:

I had the same install on my 89 and it worked fine.

I actually have a power mirror switch out of a 99 Ford expedition that i picked up. THought i would just mount it somewhere on the dash and hope the wiring was simple to figure out...

I emailed the seller and they claim they are a direct fit, without any drilling, wire cutting etc. Also, emailed a previous buyer and they stated the same thing....fits like a factory mirror and loves them. I may have to try a pair in the next few weeks and report back!

Just noticed that a popular auction site now offers new body style towing mirrors that are a direct bolt on for our body style. Is any body using them, and if so can you provide feedback? I posted a picture of the mirror I'm talking about below.

I have factory power mirrors on my 94. The switch is on the door.

I think I'm going to try and call them on Monday. I wanted these mirrors before I installed the Dodge ones on my truck but I didn't want to add the window shade/visor to make the base look right. Let me know if you get them and how they fit. I didn't cut any of my factory wiring to do the Dodge mirrors, so I can still just plug in the factory wires.

Be aware that if your truck didn't come with heated mirrors and the replacements do, the plug will most likely be different (bigger for the extra slots)

My heated mirror replacements for my plain power mirrors were...

my truck doesnt have power mirrors and it really doesnt matter to me so i dont wanna go through the trouble of installing the controlls. all the after market ones that i seem to be finding are power i have never tried but can i just adjust them by hand? the heated part would be nice though.

as i think about it a controller mounted some where other than the door probably wouldnt be that hard to install if the wireing matched up.

well, most power mirrors I've used can be moved by hand and stay in the new position. No guarantees though...

Edit:

Here's a stock GM replica in manual:

they're out here, just gotta dig...

My buddy got a set of the optional towing mirrors for his 2005 Duramax and gave me the stock ones that can be pulled out for towing. He got a fifth wheel trailer and those stock mirrors won't extend enough. He put on the new ones and they go out further and do the job. The big problem I see is that they now stick out as far when retracted as the old ones did extended, which looks stupid when not towing and can make them vulnerable at times. The Dodge mirrors stick out that far also. no matter which way the heads are turned. Just an observation for consideration for those contemplating a switch. Maybe a rear mount camera would be good to have; especially since the cost has come down so much.

I've got a rear mount camera. All it's good for is looking at the hitch when you have a trailer on.

You need some kind of towing mirror with anything much bigger than a 4X8 utility trailer. Be it aftermarket, dodge or a factory swap over.
