Another DTC 35 thread

Pretty sure I got the 35 when my fuel tank sock iced up and I ran out of fuel symptoms. Immediately after coding it limp modes.
 
there's so many that only find out the LP or OPS is toast after changing the fuel filter and not be able to prime.
that happened on my first 6.2,shortly after the IP went belly up too.

IMO,a fuel pressure gauge is more important than relocating the PMD from the IP( save for ease of installing a new one)

A friend of mine ran over 300.000 km on the same OPS,LP and IP,till he changed fuel filter last time.He could'nt prime it. LP was toast. He never knew how long that had been altough he said the truck was a bit sluggish lately. a month after,his IP gave the ghost as well.
 
LP issues will definately overtax the transfer pump in the IP.
As was mentioned the casual (soccer mom) driver may not even notice that things are amiss.

The oil pressure switch is definately a sore spot and should be checked every so often.

One way to tell quickly without even opening the hood is to crank the beast up **COLD** then shut down after a couple moments.
The LP should remain running and be audible until the Oil pressure drops off and this can take 15 -30 seconds depending on ambient temp and the oil being used.

If things are dead silent then the LP or the OPS may be dead.

This all can be done with the drivers door open and then listen for purrrr of the LP after shut down.

I deff agree with bison on the fuel guage being a "must have". Hearing a purr from the LP dosent mean it's working correctly. The pump can be running but not working to its full potential. Just happened to my 95. LP runs and pumps good with the key on, but start the truck, and the pressure drops to nothing (got a walbro and racor on the way!) Only way you would have known that was the issue was by using the fuel guage.

Now in regards to the DTC 35.....x2 on the FSD problem. I had the 35 flashing for weeks with no problems. Then I started getting the stalling, followed by a stall and no-start condition. Replace FSD....code went away and no more stalling. So I would have to say that the 35 acted as a nice "pmd warning light" in my case also

Probably the downside to the LP being flow on fail. Sometimes an easy driver can go for awhile without realizing the pump is not being supplied.

VERY True. Although you can drive home for a while, when you do break down it costs you an Injection pump instead of a lift pump, and it will happen, eventually.

So probably better off not being flow on fail without a fuel pressure gauge, which should be factory, but that would never happen.

Perhaps they specced flow on fail because they never had faith in their OPS system, or LP's, as either of those failing would result in a tow.
