Another 6.5 bites the dirt

Yeah Missy I hear ya on the funding issue.
My 92 dually is just gonna sit there for now. Im finishing welding a new neck on my gooseneck trailer and the old 85 one ton is gonna have to pull it around here. Bunch of things to spend $ on before a nice engine for the 92.

Well more decisions have had to be made.

Yesterday I got back to work on the engine for a little bit. Installed the new timing chain along with the original sprockets and gears.

Decided to finish looking over the heads and wash them up, install new seals etc.

Found some cracks in places that just can't be allowed. An exhaust valve seat on both heads had cracked out onto the fire deck. GAME OVER

Interestingly it was not a rear cylinder either but instead a middle one.
Precups badly cracked right up to the fire rings on all holes.

Just not a good deal at all. Too much work to do it over again. Its also not a question of will it fail, but when.!!

Just got off the phone with Clearwater cyl head.

$650 for a set to my door and a 5 year gaurantee. Can't beat it.
I have a set of these on the 94 burb and they were fine looking heads for sure.

Just hoped I could get by with the old heads to stem the $$$$$$$$$$$ going out.

Ahh well all will be OK

Sounded like you kept looking closer until you found a reason to buy those heads! You've been talking about those since the beginning of the build! :)

Don't need to sell us Missy, we're already rootin for ya here!

Bought a set of used (recent rebuild) heads from a fellow at the coast.

$200 for the pair. Dirty but in good shape.

The pair had mismatched precups but I have a set of matching cups to stuff in them

Wanted a fresh set but this was too good of a deal to pass up.

Will keep ya posted on things as they develop

Good news

The used heads are all clean and apart. Had them checked out at the shop, (pressure tested) A OK good to go.

I will reassemble them now and we should be good to go.

Just about everything I need is in hand so it's off to the rodeo.

Will post more updates as they happen.

I will also be adding tech tips in the 6.2/6.2 build tips "STICKY" thread as the beast goes back together..

Best
