I am some what confused I am going amsoil and do not know what to use, and how much ,in my 05 lly 5 speed allison automatic .I called amsoil tech support and they said to use amsoil universal atf .but could not tell me how much.I just want to change the filter and how much oil there is when you do that.

A lot, be ready for your wallet to hurt. GM rates it at I believe 14 quarts after a rebuild.

On most of the stock pan trucks ive done its taken 9-10 with a stock pan and just doing the internal filter and such.

It takes about 7-8 quarts to service the Ally using the drain plug and external filter change.

I can see the confusion on which fluid to use. Is your Allison stock or modified?

as far as I know it is stock MY 3500 cc 4wd has 55000 miles on it It is a regency conversion 16 inch tires o back and 17 inch on front ,not sure if I like that,

I changed the fluid and filter .I pulled the drain plug too.it took about 7 quarts .I used the universal trans fluid.I thinkI could have used amsoil torque drive .I am told that this is a little better fluid for the allison transmission .is this true????

It's suppose to be the comparable fluid to the Transyd Fluid. So it would be better than what come in it.

Maybe a amsoil guy will chime in.

Torque Drive is a suitable replacement for Transynd

There has been a reformulation:

ATL Synthetic Low-Viscosity Automatic Transmission Fluid,
is the replacement for DEX VI, not ATF!

not sure what atl is ?are you saying that I cannot use torque drive in my 5 speed allison automatic 05 model tranny ..thank you

Not at all. Torque Drive is perfectly fine for your '05. In '06 GM decided all Ally's would have to use a Dex VI fluid to be covered under warranty.

I would and will use Torque Drive all day long.

ATL is the new Dex VI compatible fluid, ATF is no longer Dex VI compatible as the viscosity is too high.

you bet I will tell them!!I am really sold on amsoil.how long do you go between oil and filter changes for your tranny, and do you change the internal filtre too.my external filter had already been changed once but I changed it again anyway.it had a magnet between it and the motor.not had anyone mention this yet.how long do you go between motor oil changes?just how good is amsoil for my turbo??
