Ok heres how us hillbillys diagnose and repair alternators. First stick a screwdriver or wrench to the back of the alternator while the vehicle is running, if the magnet grabs and holds it the alternator is good. If the magnet doesnt grab it and hold it then give the altinator a couple good taps with a hammer or good big wrench, if the brushes are stuck this shakes em loose and the alternator starts charging, to check for charging place metal wrench against magnet like above. If alternator has a bad bearing then when u hit it with the hammer the shaft will slap over against the housing and the most beautiful pile of aluminum shavings will fly out. Based on this or the lack of charging when u tap it take it to the alternator shop and rebuild it. See thats why yall want me to listen and learn all these fancy ways of doing things, u dont want me giving advice! LOL I bet Ace has done this type testing back in the "day" ?
