Air Hammers

I've got an ingersol rand, and it is one bad MOFO. Whichever one you get, step up and buy a locking collar for it. That chincy spring retainer they all come with is a joke, and an air hammer bit launching out the end of the hammer is not a good thing.

Air hammer,..is that the same as a jack hammer used in construction/demolition?

nope I'm talking automotive style. I've looked at several diff hammers but can't find much in the way of specs. about the only thing listed is BPM. I want a heavy hitter, is it safe to assume the long body ones pack a bigger wallop?

This is one of those tools that it WILL NOT be a good idea to buy cheap (read Harbor Freight).
I already made that mistake. I now have Chicago Pneumatic but would get the one Ferm has if I needed to replace it.
Locking collar is a must have too.
I use mine in more than automotive work. I've put it to work on several building renovation jobs too if I had enough hose to the big compressor.

I can guarantee you that the 121 is a bad ombre, and will do some damage. I use it mostly for suspension work, and it works great for seperating tie rod ends and ball joints. It is LOUD though, and has 3000 BPM which is almost deafening running it full bore with 150 psi shop air. I broke down and bought ear muffs to use it as it was so loud in my metal shop.

I agree.I have the same one.
It works ok,but lacks power.I have had to borrow a buddies snapon hammer a few times, and that thing works great. It is longer and has the locking collar.Would hate to think what it cost though.

I use the Heavy Duty Blue-Point Air Hammer on a weekly basis and it is amazing. I use either the chisel bit, pointed bit,, blunt - hammer bit, or pickle fork bit on any number of automotive tasks and I have no complaints yet. Just a warning: WEAR HEARING PROTECTION!!!
